Ok. Lets say you were offered a job but it was only for 6 months. They offered you a crazy insane salary for those 6 months that is more than you make in a whole year. But there was a lot of travel involved for 3 of those 6 months, say 5 days a week away from home. On one hand you'd be away from FH a lot and it would be very stressful. On the other hand you'd have your wedding paid in full with money left over and not have any budget worries for your wedding. What would you do?
3/4/05 UPDATE..........So FH and I talked about it and he told me to GO FOR IT. I'm meeting with the woman tonight to go over details!!!! I'm so excited, I just hope it doesn't turn out to be one of those too good to be true situations.
WISH ME LUCK!!!

Hmmmm this is a TOUGH one! I probably wouldnt do it though, as tempting as the money is! I would be so lonely without FH.

I would take it. It is a once in a lifetime oppt plus it has a lot of benefits, such as paying off your entire wedding and then some. Even though it will take time away from each other, it is just for a short period of time. I would definitely do it.

Though it sounds really tempting, I wouldn't do it. Even the best of relationships need constant care and nurturing. The long absences would definitely put a strain on the marriage (phone calls are nice but not enough to sustain a relationship). This is JMHO and kudos to whoever would want to do it.

I think I might have to do it. Money is always an issue and strain on a relationship and if you could relieve that it would be worth the time away.

Re: The Offer of a lifetime. Question&Poll
I would do it- IF my FH was supportive of it. If not, I would say no. It would be nice not to have to worry about paying for the wedding and its such a short time. Think of all those girls and guys marrying military people. They are apart a lot and survive.

I would have to do it. My FH and I were a part for 5 days out of the week for the first 2 years of our relationship. It was definitely hard BUT you have no idea how great it was on the weekends and how much spice it really does add to the relationship. Don't get me wrong, I agree that relationships do need a lot of care, etc. but absence makes the heart wild when you return home! Especially because its only short term. Of coruse, the deciding factor is what your FH thinks but thats just my opinion

Re: The Offer of a lifetime. Question&Poll
No I wouldn't do it. I tend to be a worry wart when it comes to $$ but there are more things to life than money. I was in a very similar situation over the last few years. I'm a teacher at one of the lowest paying districts in Nassau county (second lowest) I also teach some of the more academically demanding courses (college Eco and AP World History). In most districts my job is really two full time jobs and each one pays A LOT more money. There are districts out there were I could easily make $10K-15K more a year. The problem is my district was very close to my home and I have to care for my handicapped father as a result of a stroke he had seven years ago. I was once offered a higher paying job in Suffolk but then who would take him to his doctor's appts during the week? If he fell during the day how would I get home in time. I would also be giving up my tenure and job security which I now needed because even though it was a lower salary, if I moved to another district I could get excised the next year and totally lose my job. Many of you will be forced with such a decision when you have children and you might have to forego that high paying job in the city for a lesser paying job on the island, etc.
I would not do it. Life's too short. FH and I went to college together but never met until 12 years later. I already feel like I've missed out on years with him and wouldn't want to do it. Also I'm a homebody. FH travels for work occassionally and he's not a big fan it's VERY stressful. I couldn't travel too. I'd be way too worried about my Dad and my future children.

I would definitely do it. Right now Im working two jobs to pay for the wedding. 6 months is not that long, and the benefits are overwhelming. I cant empasize enough how much I stress that even though we are saving up, we might fall short on money. But the important thing is everyone's relationship is different. I would weigh my options and make a pro/con list. It will help you determine whats most important. Good luck, you have a tough decision ahead of you.

I may have confused a few people. The job is just a one time thing. It would more than pay for my wedding as well as all of our bills. We're working so hard to get everything paid in time. I would be home 2-3 days a week during those 3 months.

It would be something totally different than I do now. But I hate my job now so anything would be better at this point.

Re: The Offer of a lifetime. Question&Poll
I would do it, no question. If the timing is right, it sounds like you would be able to afford not to have to work right before the wedding and you could concentrate on the final planning. 4-5 days a week away from your FH for the first 3 months doesn't seem extreme.
If you take it, do as much as you can for the wedding right now and then you won't feel stressed while the job is taking up your time.

AMEN!! No question, relationships can survive not seeing each other for a few days a week. There is the telephone and computer these days for constant contact with each other. If your FH is all for it, I say go for it!
I answered yes BUT only if I could bring my dog. FH will understand why I am away but poor Murphy wouldnt and I cant trust FH to fully take care of him either.
