I think we should keep this thread alive..
I am going to change only once, so 2 dresses total
I totally agree! It's great to find other Asian brides who are going through similar things!

Oh! I totally forgot I started this thread hahahahaha!
But I'm only changing once as well. I didn't want to change at all but FMIL really wanted the chi pao. I may just wear the chi pao during the tea ceremony (it's right before the real ceremony and I didn't want people stepping/spilling tea on my real dress)...and I guess at the very end, if I really have to.
I ordered mine from www.eaststore.com...they had a lot of great selections and more modern cuts.

I didn't want to change either but grandma and mom were hinting at it and would be really glad if I did....so I will.
I don't think we're doing the tea ceremony. Both our parents aren't that traditional and they weren't sure about how to go about it so they said we didn't need to do it. Are you getting your chi pao custom made?

Here are the styles of the two dress's. And I'll be sporting a modified chinese dress for the tea ceremony.I'll be getting my chinese dress made st CFG in chinatown... I'll most likely bring a print out from http://www.eaststore.com/ so I can customize the dress.
It's also hard b/c I'm not chinese, and the store attendants sometime look at me as if I'm retarded.

I'm actually using jillian from Gorgeous Faces...she's not asian, but she's done tons of asian girls.
But Sachiko Yanase and Sissi Chan are pretty popular makeup artistis among the asian crowd.

Re: ~*~*~ THE OFFICIAL ASIAN BRIDES THREAD ~*~*~
I am getting my make-up done with David Kalahiki. I am very happy with him. Sachiko will be doing our hair.
As for changing - I am going to only wear 1 dress in the states and then 4 in Shanghai.
My blood is Korean and he is Chinese (all his family is in Shanghai). So I will be wearing 4 traditional chinese dresses and one han-bok.
:)

Re: ~*~*~ THE OFFICIAL ASIAN BRIDES THREAD ~*~*~
how are you guys managing all these dress changes in terms of time? I am changing into a hanbok and then the traditional red dress but im trying to figure out how much time all this will take during the reception. I will be doing the korean ceremony and the lion dance. i feel like this is time consuming with all the changes and the ceremonies so i thought maybe i would do the korean ceremony during cocktail hour but a lot of my family (chinese) want to be able to watch it. any pointers?

hi.My friends who did the Korean Ceremony did it during the later half of the cocktail hour in a different area and invited all who wanted to see it. In Korea, my friend did it after the party in a different area for those who wanted to see.
