Re: The Official Homeowners Thread

I own a condo, FH moved in this summer. We want a house but he wanted to move back to NY (from FL) so we put the househunting on hold forawhile. Now I think he's back in the househunting (in FL) mood again So, we'll see

Re: The Official Homeowners Thread

We bid on a house 2 weeks ago in northern NJ, it was supposed to come out of legal review on Friday until another bidder popped up!!! (I'm still skeptical about the legitimacy of this bidder, but what can you do?) Anyway, we matched the bid since it's still in our range, and it's out of legal review.

Now onto the inspection and appraisal. The tentative close date is 11/27. I really hope this works out!

Closed on our house in Franklin Square in June, can't believe we own it now for almost 5 months. Our renovations are finally done, now just decorating.

In contract to sell my co-op in Queens, let's hope I close on that in December and will be free of two mortgages!

Re: The Official Homeowners Thread

my house is in Hampton Bays...

I have owned the house since 1996.....but i didn't live in it full time until 4 years ago becasue i was working in the city...it was my great uncle's house, he had it built in 1953...and legally i own it with brothers but FH & I live in it...so it's like a freaking co-op board anytime something major needs to get done...it's a little 2 bedroom one story house..no basement..so small my washer/dryer is in my kitchen!!! Hoping to buy out my brothers one day...so i can expand it!! It's got a lot of sentimental value..hopefully will never sell it.

Thank you! I didn't think it would be stressful, but those sketchy real estate agents really know how to scr*w you over!

We bought a townehouse in Raleigh, NC last year. We may be looking to move back up North (southern NJ) next year sometime. I guess I'll be back on then!

Re: The Official Homeowners Thread

Hi ladies....I am a homeowner since April. I bought my grandmothers house and my parents and me and FH all live there now. I started construction to make a mother-daughter house last week without permits (big Mistake I know) and one of my neighbors called the Town on me. So i have been a mess. Now I am in the process of getting my permits but I am living with my in-laws and still have to pay my mortgage every month. I am so upset about it. The work could have been done in three weeks and now its going to be months. I really have to get it together cause I still have a wedding to plan but not in the mood cause I have so many other things to worry about. Its also going to cost a lot more than I thought so now thats less money for my wedding. Sorry I just need to vent a little. Thanks for listening.

Getting caught hurts. Now you can't use the old 'it was renovated before the code change'. But at least you won't have to go thru the as built process.

I honestly thought the same exact thing a month ago. We thought that there was no chance in hell that we would be able to buy something before the wedding, but now is a really great time to buy. The market is slowing down and the winter months are the most difficult for sellers so they're willing to make more deals with you. We got our condo for much less than it was worth because the guy was desparate to get rid of it.

I would suggest talking to a couple of banks to see what you can afford per month. I was surprised at how much we were able to spend. Good luck!!

Trust me Lee you guys will def be able to! I know how ya feel, Joe and I feel the same way. Definetly talk w/ a mortgage person, they'll tell you what you can afford to spend based on both your incomes. They'll estimate it also with taxes and utilities..etc. Plus you can do 103% financing if needed.

Right now is a great time to buy, but don't worry prices are still coming down.
