i suffer from 4 & 5 every single solitary day of my life...every single solitary time i use the bathroom...

Jesus Jess, that is horrible. Do you think it could be your diet? I mean this has been going on for 9 years, I'm sure you've considered that before, but I figured I'd ask. I know mine is, in part, caused by my diet. I'm not big on 'roughage' which obviously doesn't help me out in terms ofgetting the system going.

it even happens to me when i literally ingest NOTHING...seriously. i won't eat or drink all day long because i know i'm busy - or we're on a road trip and i'll go anyway....it's really rough!

my doc said i'm the most severe case he's ever had before.. good to know i'm great at something!!

Maybe you are overproducing stomach acid. Did they test your h. pylori levels and that kind of thing? I'm trying to think of what else...I wonder if there is some awesome IBS specialist somewhere that we can get to do a package deal with all of us, lol.

no idea about the h pylori...i'll ask him....i'm going to do some research about it and see if i can find someone doing 'groundbreaking' work or something...

my mom seems to recall hearing something on her radio station about looking for testers for something new for IBS...but doesn't remember if it was C or D...

Ok, so I just read this whole thread and I noticed that anxiety plays a big part in some of your cases.

Have any of the anxiety IBS girls tried anxiety medicine?

What about counselling? I would imagine that you psych yourself up before you even go into some social settings which then triggers it. Maybe talking to a counsellor/psychologist would help?

How do you know that you have it? What does a doctor actually DO to test you for IBS?

I get pretty bad anxiety, and my symptoms are worse when im anxious. (ie: 5 trips to the bathroom the morning of a big exam)

I had a bunch of tests before I was diagnosed, but I have Crohns so IBD not IBS. I had some cat scans and other things done when I had really bad stomach pain, turned out to be a ruptured appendix. Then a barium test, a colonoscopy, etc. the tests ****** (particularly the prep for the colonoscopy, especially right after the barium test bc i had to get all of the barium out) but it was worth it in the end, bc the meds im on now pretty much control my symptoms and i live a pretty normal life. i only avoid a few foods...

Talk about weird, Jess....

Last night we tried this new place in Parsippany I think I told you about it. 5 Guys Famous Burgers. I was sure I'd be sick in 5 minutes - ha ha. I made it through the entire night! I think the trick is that I didn't eat much all day.

The way I see it, the dr. runs a whole bunch of tests on you and if he can't find anything he says it's IBS. I do plan on seeing a psychiatrist for anxiety medication because it does effect my lifestyle

AMEN! i hope no one takes offense but I always saw my diagnosis of IBS-D as bull$h!t! they test you for a whole bunch of stuff and if they cant find an answer they tell you you have irritable bowel syndrome - well DUH! i'm pretty sure i know my bowels were irritable!

I think if they found better ways of testing most of us would be diagnosed with food allergies, or celiac, crohns, etc. ugghhhh some doctors arent tooo smart

hey Bon - i'm currently on Paxil - been on it for just over a month - it's not making the slightest difference in what's going on. When I first was diagnosed with IBS - 9 years ago - they sent me for therapy to see if I was making myself worse....but I was cleared...

You have problem with naseua and vomitting?

My Dr's told me it had NOTHING to do with Crohn's and they had no clue why I was having problems

So yesterday wasn't a bad day but wasn't a good day. FH and I went into the city and I was determined NOT to go on the train....so we get to Penn station and the bathroom's are CLOSED....I started to freak out since my tummy was acting up. Thankfully some of the restaurants in there have them though open to patrons and we 'snuck' into Friday's.

Re: **The OFFICIAL IBS THREAD**

There are a few bathrooms in Penn Station!!!

1. Right by the elevators downstairs - near the big board.

2. Upstairs right near the pretzel place - near the big board for all trains.

3. In the NJ transit section - upstairs - VERY clean.

I dont have a problem with nausea/vomiting but that's the ABCD bathroom code Fh and I use. I do get carsick if I read or look down in the car, but I rarely throw up from it. Has nothing to do with my Crohns though. I sometimes get nauceous from anxiety, but only rarely. ie: the morning of a big exam and i might dry heave or feel sick to my stomach. I found that if I get up really early I can't eat carbs/normal breakfast foods or it makes it worse. However, if I eat protein (turkey meatballs, leftovers, eggs) the nausea goes away and I feel better. Again, think that's just anxiety and not Crohns.
