We should put together an official list of easily accessible bathrooms on long island for all the ibs girls!
funny that you say that. some people at my school started this a few years ago:
http://www.wubathrooms.com/
I have my own code system... 'A' (pee) 'B' (poo) 'C' (puke) 'D' (err.... D)
You have problem with naseua and vomitting?
My Dr's told me it had NOTHING to do with Crohn's and they had no clue why I was having problems
So yesterday wasn't a bad day but wasn't a good day. FH and I went into the city and I was determined NOT to go on the train....so we get to Penn station and the bathroom's are CLOSED....I started to freak out since my tummy was acting up. Thankfully some of the restaurants in there have them though open to patrons and we 'snuck' into Friday's.
I dont have a problem with nausea/vomiting but that's the ABCD bathroom code Fh and I use. I do get carsick if I read or look down in the car, but I rarely throw up from it. Has nothing to do with my Crohns though. I sometimes get nauceous from anxiety, but only rarely. ie: the morning of a big exam and i might dry heave or feel sick to my stomach. I found that if I get up really early I can't eat carbs/normal breakfast foods or it makes it worse. However, if I eat protein (turkey meatballs, leftovers, eggs) the nausea goes away and I feel better. Again, think that's just anxiety and not Crohns.
One of the first things my dr told me when I was diagnosed was to keep a low carb diet high protein diet...i don't remember exactly why but its supposed to help with Crohn's.

Re: **The OFFICIAL IBS THREAD**
I can't believe that the week I am off the boards this becomes a huge thread....
Hi my name is Anne and I have IBS -- both kinds for my entire life!!!!!!!!! I have been poked, proded and completey humliated so I understand what all of you girls go through and feel your pain LITERALLY.
I haven't read through all of this, but I do want to say these few things...
1. I have a great Gastro -- he is RVC but worth the ride for anyone who isn't close (FM me for details)
2. DO NOT SELF MEDICATE -- NATURAL OR NOT -- this caused me more problems then I needed to go through -- you would be surprised.
3. Due to hard work, persistance and great doctor I am officially prescription med free
Girls this is a club that no one wants to be a part of yet all of us who belong could be president of!

That's interesting! My doctor basically told me that everyone has their own manifestation of the disease, so that I should just try things bit by bit and see what bothers me and what doesn't. I see it as there being 2 kinds of foods.
1. The type that can potentially irritate my digestive system, might make me feel crappy or pain, but won't cause a blockage and will eventually pass. (caffeine, spicy food, greasy food, alcohol, etc)
2. the type that can potentially cause an intestinal blockage or partial blockage, make me REALLY sick, send me back to the hospital, cause me to be admitted, etc and even potentially lead to surgery.
I can experiment with type 1 with my discretion, but type 2 can be really dangerous so I shouldn't mess with it.
(Again, I have Crohns IBD rather than IBS, and have scar tissue in one part of my intenstine from when my appendix ruptured due to the Crohns. I know some people with Crohns have surgeries/resections/etc and might have the same scar tissue issue. not sure if it affects IBS people at all. I'm supposed to avoid things that you don't digest like raw celery, corn, etc)

I wish I had a gastro to refer you to. I was diagnosed after my appendix ruptured, so I was seen by the emergency gastro doc at South Nassau. I liked him a lot but I don't know if he just does emergency or if he was on call, etc. I have a regular doc out here, but I [thank god] have been pretty good health-wise since I went on meds, so I just check in with him 1-2x a year and he prescribes me more meds.
I wish I could make you feel better..

Good Luck. Let us know what happens.
And to your earlier post -- cheerios are iffy for me. Sometimes they are a life saver sometime they are all that is evil in my world!

may be TMI BUTTTT...i think you girls of all ppl will think this is funny...
my sissy and I (also has an iffy GI tract) came up with our own poo rating system.
0 = no poo hahaha never had this problem 1= rabbit turds 2 = normal poo that ive wished for all my life 3 = softserve 4 = the big D 5 = ugh, dont even wanna go there
we also call an upset tummy 'bubble guts' or 'the bajeezees' lol everyone we know probably thinks we're nuts but thats life when you live with IBS!
that's fantastic!!!!
I also like my thought of direct deposit - for when you don't even finish eating before you have to rush to go....or you JUST finish..
LOLLLLLL. Ok so I frequenly have 1 and 0. Espresso = #2. If I've had #0 for too long, I eventually end up with #1 followed by #3-5 in the course of a few hours (almost feels like I am so full that my body pushes EVERYTHING out no matter how far along the digestive process it might be).
Anyone else have this formula?
Hmm I've never been diagnosed with this. Prob cuz I won't go to doctors. too many reasons...
but this is exactly what happens to me. I know I should go, but basically it sounds like most of you are saying that nothing helps anyway. ?

Re: **The OFFICIAL IBS THREAD**
welp - like i said - there are 2 more tests he can do...that's it.
1. fecal fat test - to make sure i'm not malabsorbing something.
2. specialized CT test with contrast die - that will allow them to see into my small bowel.
he said there's a chance i have small bowel crohns.
The reason i go to the bathroom sometimes when i eat NOTHING is because the stomach produces 2 liters per day of a liquid that sits in your stomach and it's to aid digestion, etc....so when i don't eat anything - that's why i still go. He said there is literally NOTHING that can be done about that.
fun huh?

ok girls....question. i don`t know if i truely have IBS i have never been to a DR about it. Well once when i was younger but they told me it was stress go do some yoga. (yeahhh tell that to a 12 year old) since then things have only got worse. I know certain foods i can and cannot eat. Things i will only eat at home so i know i`ll be able to get to the potty asap. Are there any specific signs that it is IBS or do i just have a weak stomach? Help me decide if i need to make a DR visit!
In all honesty, I haven't found doctors to be much of a help -all they've told me is to eat more fiber and exercise, and then prescribed me a pill that was recalled a few months later and didn't help much anyway. You know your body best, and in time you will be able to figure out which foods don't agree with you and what you need to avoid, as you mentioned.
thanks!! i had a feeling that was what to do. i know what hurts me yet i eat it anyway cuz it just tastes so good. i guess i am a gluten for punishment!
