Good luck Jess! I'd be afraid of that one, don't they keep you awake for that? EEEK! You should have them test you for ciliacs, but I'm sure you've already been tested for that by now.

What kind of special test?
Please tell me - did they keep you awake while putting the tube in your mouth? Did it hurt? That seems scary!

Re: **The OFFICIAL IBS THREAD**

I can't believe I forgot to send this out on Friday when I saw the doc...

Backstory - there's a guy i work with - his name is Jim. We've bonded over our health issues. He had colitis VERY badly - so bad that it developed into colon cancer & he had one of his intestines removed and the other one directly attached to his anus. I know - total overshare....but he said he went from going to the bathroom 15 times a day (like me) to 4 times a day.

So anyway - it's been bothering him immensely that i'm fat & i have ibs...he never said fat - i do. So on Thursday, he comes into my office & says, 'ya know - when i was at my worst - like you are now, i was deathly skinny'. I said - 'i know - that's what bothers me the most & makes me upset. There are times when I won't even finish eating dinner & i have to go...so how in hell am i digesting ANYTHING in order to keep gaining weight?' I also told him about for Val's wedding, i was going to the jim every single day for about 3 hours & wasn't losing ANYTHING until he put me on a medication to help. So he says - 'i think you should talk to your doc about your metabolism...there's a chance something is very wrong there. because there are large chunks of time that you flat out don't eat -your body is going into starvation mode - so it's keeping EVERY BIT of what you eat at all times....' That made something CLICK in my head & i almost kissed him...that makes so much sense.

So - i saw the doc on Friday & told him the whole thing & he was like, that is 100% what's going on. I've said to him 1,000 times that i don't eat a lot during the day because if i know i have a meeting - it's not worth it...and he said that by doing that - your metabolism goes into sleep mode & stores anything that goes inside....to use for later times of starvation...

He said we'll get through the wedding & the sinus infection I have now and then we're going to deal with this....he said it makes a lot of sense & he said he didn't realize that the not eating thing is almost an every day occurence...

So - i'm sooooooooooooo excited that we're going to get to the bottom of this VERY soon!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also - Immodium is NOW WORKING FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!! I took it for my bachelorette party & it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Jess....i mentioned before on this thread that my FH has ulcerative collitis...he has been having a flare up for almost three months now....he tried Remicade but his body rejected the infusions. He is going to try another drug but if that doesnt work the dr said he may have to have his colon removed...just like your friend from work. :o( My FH is so scared! I feel so helpless sometimes cause ther isnt anything I can do to make him feel better! Anyways when you get a chance FM me..we would like to get a 2nd opinion!

My sister was just diagnosed with IBS and reading thru this thread I realized that this is probably what my mom has too.

Hugs to anyone dealing with this

Re: **The OFFICIAL IBS THREAD**

haven't had any action here as of late - so figured i'd bumperoony!

i've actually been doing okay as of late...i think it's a combination of a few things...

1. taking acidopholous (totally destroyed the spelling, sorry) every day. My nutritionist said that it takes MONTHS for it to build up into your system and the cute 'yogurt ads' are full of it.

2. eating 6-7 meals a day and by meals - i mean little things... just eating food of some kind throughout the day. i was doing rather well with this until recently - i HAVE to get back into it....

Re: **The OFFICIAL IBS THREAD**

I also have IBS but have really gotten it under control without medications by eating high fiber diets (Kashi is perfect for this) and staying away from soy products and acidic foods which cause my IBS to flair up...

Also you should avoid caffeine and chocolates...I can't begin to tell you how much better mine became once I took all of these things out...HTH
