First off this is the best thread ever it has been so helpful to me within only the last 2 days.
So onto my dilemma, I am deciding between Starlight Express and Sound Explosion which is a dj company on Staten Island that my sister dances for. I'm pretty sure from what it sounds like that they are giving us a pretty good deal. We are getting 2 rotating spotlights, cocktail hour music, 5 hours of reception music and a percussionist for $2300. When we went to see Starlight Express I think I made it seem too much that we def wanted them and they didn't really spend too much time with us, just kind of put on a video and then gave us the price. For all of the additions listed above we got a price quote of $3595, however that includes kinetic lighting besides the two spotlights. Does anyone have any price quotes without the kinetic lighting and fitting with the package we would like? I'm from Staten Island so it's hard for me to keep going back there to find out. I will try over the phone though if I don't get the feedback I need from here. Is there anyway that taking out that kinetics part of the package for Starlight that the price could go down $1300, I doubt it right? Just wanted to confirm my thoughts so we can make a decision on this once and for all. Also, our budget for the dj was around $2200, I don't know if that's unrealistic but I would like to keep it close to that number hopefully, so you can see how Starlight was def up there for us. However, I do see all the rave reviews so I really am stumped.
Thanks so much for your time I really appreciate any help I can get!
at starlight you can add anything you want, you dont have to get any of the extra's its up to you. If you want kinetic lighting then you add it but if not you are not forced into getting it. If you mentioned lighting then they will add that to your package. I had the lighting, and plus plasma's, percussion, zap photographer for around the range they gave you. If you take it out then it will be about $1k less or 1300 whatever the price was for the lighting.

when i saw MRG at the JT bridal showcase i remember their prices were very reasonably priced, lower than alot of other dj's so you definitely can get a great package with them price wise. I didnt see their showcase so cant comment on them personally.
Body rock from what i remember wasnt that bad either. I saw them do a showcase at JT and they were good.
If youre going to the JT bridal show, definitely talk to them there and see what they can do for you. Plus if there is going to be a dj showcase it would be great if one of them is doing it but each bridal show they alternate.

My Fh and I went to meet with Francesca from Dazzling Affairs (the coordinator) and I thought that she was really great. I went in and was thinking that I am pretty on top of mostly everything and it was really great to bounce my ideas off of her and hear her feedback. I went in with a list of questions that I had about the hall, bridesmaid dresses, favors, etc. She will help with anything you need. She is mostly there to just give you advice but you still have to do everything yourself. For example, I asked her about hotels and she whipped out a list of nearby hotels, which I thought was great. It was def. worth the trip out there to see her. I even get emails from her randomly to ask how things are going. I might hire her as a DOC if I can convince FH to con''t going over budget. We'll see!!!!

Thanks. I want to go to the showcase they are having next week, but I have class. And I dont think we watched the DJ showcase when we went to the bridal show there last year. Hopefully I can see them soon though!

Re: The official JERICHO TERRACE thread
JT ladies - wanted to make sure that you all heard that the Hilton Garden Inn and JT just made a deal to give all JT brides who book their hotel with the Hilton in Westbury free shuttle for guests back and forth to the reception. This was a great deal and def. saving me like $1k!!!They are giving 2 shuttle vouchers per room and anything over, the bride and groom pay for at the same rate that the Hilton is getting from the transportation company. It was really cheap - Nadine from the Hilton told me but I forget how much. Bride and groom are also responsible for gratuity. It's about 4 miles away from JT right behind the Bed Bath and Beyond.
I went out to the hotel and checked it out and it was very nice and cozy. They had cookies, coffee, and tea out the evening I went - which I thought was a nice touch. The bar is a little small but we thought we can make it work. People shouldn't be drinking too much after a 5 hour open bar. At first, we had 15 rooms in our block which was all she could give me but once the 15 were filled, she added 10 more. Very nice and accomodating so far. Hope this is useful for some of you!!!

Body Rock is def. cheaper than Starlight Express. I looked into them both but was sold on Starlight. If I didn't hear so many great things about Starlight and just get an overall vibe that they were really a great company, Body Rock was next on my list. I just heard so many great things about Starlight and couldn't pass on them. I am paying a little less than 3k for dj, mc, and lights.

Thank you! This is great info! now, you are obviously having a lot of out of towners so you might not even know...but was there a minimum for blocking rooms or for atleast getting the discounted rate? Also, are they able to comp your room?

Re: The official JERICHO TERRACE thread
Lorin... You are very welcome! I am not sure about a minimum but they did not give me a comp room. I asked about it, too... That part kind of ****** but they are saving me some money and the headache of having to arrange the shuttle. Such a relief not to have to deal with it....
