Today is my FH's first day on the streets as a NYC cop--- he was in the academy for five months, and they put them all out today b/c of the strike. Now every night that he is not home, I will be wondering if he is okay. I don't think I am going to like this....

It will get easier. You'll never be 110% relaxed, but it will get easier. I dated a cop for 10 years and after a while I stopped obsessing every time he went to work.

It gets easier. Trust me. As long as they check in every night, you'll be fine.

my fh feels the same way you do i have been on for about 4 years know and he says its alittle easier but you are always gonna worry about them cause we are cops and we put our lives in danger everyday to save and help other people. so don't worry he will be ok he might be cold but he will be fine otherwise

I too have a FH in he academy....yours have been one of the few companies that had their gun and shield day moved up!! (my FH is having his on monday!)
my brother is on the job already, so i worry now as well...but it's gonna be a whole new ball game when fh hits the streets....so i feel your pain!!!!

My brother is a cop...he was in the academy during 9/11...It was horrible! He has been on for about 4 years now.

FH is a cop...I was really worried since he works in the 73 (brownsville) it is the WORST precinct out there...so for the first few months when he was on foot patrol and he told me they throw bowling balls at the cops I was worried but he loves being and cop and has a good head on his shoulders. He takes his job seriously I worry more about him driving to work in bad weather or getting in a car accident now then him actually at work. It gets better and we are here for ya if you need to chat or have many lonely nights.

I understand exactly how you feel my FI is also a cop in Brooklyn for 4 years now. I always worry about him but he loves his job.
