I wonder if anyone feels the same way I do....The hotel we want to book for the night of the wedding is about 3/4 of a mile from the reception. I was not planning on doing a shuttle service because it is so close...but when fiance's family heard about this they flipped and they want transportation.....even though they are not helping finacially for the wedding AT ALL! THis is my take on the situation...why should we have to pay alot of money for a shuttle service when people can drive their own cars the 3/4 of a mile themselves....am I wrong? Please help...my fiance and I are having alot of words about this....also the hotel is $169 a night...we can't control the prices either for hotels....do you think this is too expensive?

Re: The stress of transporting OOT!!!!
Hi, IMO I think $169 is a little expensive. We are paying $139 and that includes a breakfast. But if you signed the contract already there is really nothing you can do about that. As far as the transportation, OOT may not have a car to drive to the place if they came in by Plane. They might take a taxi from airport to hotel or have someone pick them up. If you don't want to pay for shuttles then try to assign people to pick them up and drop them off that might have room in thier car. Or maybe you can rent a large van and have someone pick up and drop off. Good luck

Re: The stress of transporting OOT!!!!
Wow - is there any way that you can get them to compromise & either pick up the whole or 1/2 the tab for it? It doesn't seem right that they INSIST on something that the two of you had previously made a decision on together - and then they expect YOU to pay for it. We were back & forth on the shuttles too (our guests' drive will be quite a bit further than yours), but when it came down to it we decided not to do it because of the $$$. I look at it this way - in the dozen of OOT weddings that I've attended, I've only had a shuttle twice. I neither expected it, nor begrudged it when it wasn't there. Chances are that most people will feel the same way...it's a nicety, not a necessity. If you honestly can't afford it and/or just don't think it's necessary, then I say go with your gut & don't do it. Good luck with the FILs

Re: The stress of transporting OOT!!!!
that's ridiculous. my cousin is orthodox jewish and because i'm having a saturday wedding, he can't take public transportation or drive. so he's going to walk from his hotel room. the closest hotel room from the reception hall is about 5 miles away. and he's willing to walk that! 3/4 of a mile is nothing.

Re: The stress of transporting OOT!!!!
Are you sure that the people staying at the hotel will have cars? We are providing a shuttle because all of the guests staying at our hotel will be flying in so they will not have cars. I figure if they are paying for airfare (from Texas) and a hotel room ($149 a night including breakfast), the least we can do is arrange for a shuttle for them.

Re: The stress of transporting OOT!!!!
I got a 14 passenger van from Dynasty for $320 for 7 hours to shuttle my OOT guests from hotel to RH (where ceremony was held). Alos, LaQuinta in Bohemia was $109 a night. HTH

Re: The stress of transporting OOT!!!!
Did you check with your hotel to see if they provide a shuttle.
When i booked my hotel it was originally around what you are saying 169 but i recently got a letter from them that they have dropped their rates to 130 i believe. The have been providing a shuttle for my gusts to the reception and back, as well as to the airport if needed.

Re: The stress of transporting OOT!!!!
169 a night is pretty expensive.
We're getting 109 a night and were OFFERED 149 a night (another hotel) w/ free shuttle service but we like the 109 a night hotel better and want our guests to have a better deal.
we're paying about 700 for one coach bus to make one trip from the hotel to the reception and one trip from the reception to the hotel... its a courtesy. there are a few taxi services that may do it for like 60 bucks.
where in LI is the hotel? Or is it in the city?

Re: The stress of transporting OOT!!!!
I did A LOT of research on the hotels in the area and which ones provided a shuttle! You are right it is very hard to please everyone. ALL of my family and friends are from out of town and all of FH's are here. We ended up blocking rooms at the Executive Inn because they were the only ones to provide a FREE shuttle and FREE Breakfast. They arent the nicest hotel, but they also had rooms for $119 a night and are less than a mile from the Reception. I had to look in the best interest of my guests, which was: cheap, Free shuttle, and free breakfast. Hey, in the end, they aren't spending a lot of time there, so its really just a place to crash.
Just remember you cant please everyone. So do as much as you can, and the guests can go from there!

I am getting married in White Plains (not very far from New Rochelle). Our hotel is the Westcheseter Rennaissance and we have rates for $134. I also have a bus transporting guests for an hour each way and it is costing about $800

Re: The stress of transporting OOT!!!!
$169 is alot....my parents complained about the $129 rate I got from Hilton Garden Inn next to MacArthur Airport. So I also blocked rooms at the Hampton Inn (about 2 miles down the road) for $105/night.
I beleive most of my OOT went for the Hilton @ $129 because it is closer to the airport.

Re: The stress of transporting OOT!!!!
tough one but something i dont think you and FH should have words over. I dont think 3/4 of a mile is anything at all but maybe they expect to drink and have a good time and not worry about getting back to the hotel. Either way I think its fine if you dont have transportation!! It is definetely an added expense. But if you want to think about it -i am getting married in new rochelle - using crown plaza as the hotel (139 a night) and shuttle service was about 450 for 1 round trip.

Re: The stress of transporting OOT!!!!
Our church is about a mile from the hotel. We are leaving everyone directions and a cab number in the welcome bags. No shuttle for me!

Re: The stress of transporting OOT!!!!
DH and I had a similar issue. In the end, we decided that people can be responsible enough, and adult enough to designate a driver!!! We priced out transportation and it was a LOT of money for us. Plus, like you, we didn't have help from my IL's for the wedding. We paid for so much to make our wedding special and beautiful. If people are going to complain that they have to drive 2 minutes, then they have issues!
