X17 has uncovered the truth behind Brit's less than energetic performance tonight.

Check it out -- we're all wondering why Britney looked like she was doing a dry run rather than a full-on VMAs gig tonight and X17 has the answer!

A source tells X17 Brit found out about Sarah Silverman's crappy line about Britney's babies just moments before she took the stage to perform 'Gimme More.' Needless to say, Britney was PISSED! ... as any mom would be. Britney was so upset she walked through her performance just to get it over with (despite encouragement from her friends, including Sam who was apparently yelling at Sarah backstage) to skip out on it all together). She held up her end of the bargain and got a major slap in the face from Sarah.

Chin up, Brit -- you'll rock our worlds when you're ready and Sarah's dating Jimmy Kimmel -- how great can her life be ...

I think she's really just doing these things because she's in contract with the record label to do it and she just doesn't care anymore.

I ahve to disagree with you. I think that she really enjoys making music and being a performer. However, I don't think she knows how to handle being a working mom. Some people can do it; Angelina, jennifer Gardner, Reese Witherspoon, etc. I do think the girl has issues, butthink about it, there might be some truth to the statement above. If someone was going to talk smack about my kids, I prolly wouldn't have performed at all...

I love Britney in all her trashy glory. I really like her new song and I will believe anything her PR people want to spin because I really wanted her to kick a$s last night and I was so dissapointed.

I also heard that the Palms got freaked about her original performance for insurance reasons.

But I sympathize with her a little... can you imagine what it must be like to have EVERY SINGLE move you make being caught on camera?

No excuse for her performance. People are critizing her way to much. She's got out of a bad relationship, the state wants to take her kids and thinks she is not a good mom.

Her performance was bad... but what did people expect after all she has been through???

I hate the media and bashing and it really doesnt help with those comments about her kids.

I agree.. Sarah Silverman called them the cutest mistakes she had ever seen, especially coming for a hairless vagina (something along those lines). I mean, those kids will grow up and hear these things -- that is not fair to them

I do feel bad that she has no privacy. I can't imagine what it mus be like going through with the public watching you but she knew what came with the territory when she became an entertainer. I used to like her. I really did enjoy her music but ever since she married K-fed she has gone down the tubes. That was the worst decision she ever made. I think it ruined it for her. She has gone crazy after him and needs to calm herself down. She isn't making the greatest decisions in the world right now with herself or her children. I know she loves them but she needs to get it together for them so she doesn't lose them.

Maybe she shouldn't have been partying all night in the days leading up to her performance.
I feel bad for those adorable kids.

That's a cop-out!!

Sarah Silverman is a comedian and certainly isnt the first person to say something about Brittney or her kids.

If you are going to do the things like Brittney has done..crazy partying, driving w/ your kids on your lap and having them out at crazy hours of the night, then your should expect people to talk.

If Brittney was a good performer, she would ignore the comments and move on and make it the best performance ever. She has lost it.
