The 'talk' I was dreading on having....

with FH. We are seriouly thinking about postponing the wedding to a later date even maybe to next year. With our financial situation that way it is right now and the economy we both think it would be good to postpone to save more money.

I really don't want to but if I want to have everything for our wedding maybe it would be best if we do postpone. Nothing is definite right now but it's just saddens me that we even had 'the talk'

Anyone else had or thinking about having 'the talk'?

I thought about it so many times and then it became to late so if you are thinking about it do it now. You may be better off in the long run

Have you tried pricing what the savings would be with a Thursday?

We almost postponed till 2010...but we cancelled the RH instead and planned a smaller, inexpensive wedding on our original date. Keep in mind though, we booked and cancelled in 07. Then rebooked in late 08....

Thats something to think about if you can swing it.

we've talked but never about switching the date, just going out of our way to make it happen. keeping things small. it will all work out!! good luck!!!

Our wedding was supposed to be in 08 but since we weren't financially stable, we decided to push it to 09 to save more money & we can paid for more things we want for the wedding. So if you plan on pushing it to a different date, don't worry about it. Everything will work out in the end

We've talked about it, but then we realize that we've put so much $$$ into it already that it would be stupid to reschedule when we're nearly 5 months away from the day.
You have to do what's best for you--I wish you luck with your decision!!!!

We tried to give ourselves enought time to save as much as we could. So we got engaged in Dec 2007 and booked in Jan 08 for Nov 09... giving us almost 2 years.
I think these things happen.. esp these days. It does suck. I am sorry. If FH gets laid off we might have to postpone as well. But so far so good.. I just keep my fingers crossed and hope that it all works out in the end.

I hear some RH are good about moving the date.. this way you don't lose the money from the deposit.. vendors might do that same as well. I even heard som RH might lower the price for you bc of the economy right now... so that's always worth a try.

I am soo sorry. I feel for you.. as we all do.. we are all planning weddings during one of the worst economic disasters.
Good Luck with everything.

We had that talk when my FH lost his job. But my parents said: the only thing we would accomplish by postponing is that we postponed a wedding. There are other options, ladies have already posted a few good ones. We decided to keep our RH but cut down some other things: no professionla video, no third limo, no band, and you know what we are happy with the things we are getting. I also just won a bid on e-bay for a headpiece. If i hate it i only wasted the cost of my lunch. If I love it then I just saved myself big bucks. It has almost become a challenge - how can I get as close to what I want but only pay a fraction of the cost?

We haven't had the 'talk' - FH just says he's going to 'throw up in his shoes' whenever I tell him about a bill that has to be paid.

ETA: My response to this is that he better not do that because we don't have the money to buy him new shoes!

We were suppose to get marry Nov 29, 2008, but we needed a place to live. So we moved the date to Nov 27, 2010. We did get the house in Oct 2008, but it would have been to much on us with the wedding. See if your RH will work with you. GL and you are no alone.

We have had the talk and I still feel that we should but Fh insist that it will work out in the end. But if are scared just talk to the RH and find out your options. Good luck!!

We have the talk once a day... we are probably not going to postpone considering we are almost there (7 months) and this economy is not going to get better anytime soon. I don't want to wait a few years to get married. We both are lucky enough to still have our jobs but if one of us gets laid off we are totally screwed.

i've non-challantly mentioned it but FH is adamant about getting the wedding out of the way so we can go on with our lives.

I feel the same way...at this point i just want it over with.

We are going to have 'the talk' tonight. FH lost his job today and my main priority is paying our mortgage and household bills, so we'll see what happens
