The 'YOU CHARGE HOW MUCH?' Thread!

Original post by CubanBride

What was the most outrageous quote you got from a vendor? By outrageous, I mean expensive.

I got a quote from a photogrpaher of $10,000. I should have known, she was based out in the Hamptons.

I haven't had many outrageous quotes but how about this?

53,000 for flowers!!!!!!!

I was on the knot one day and one of the brides asks if that is too much for flowers. I almost choked. She was getting married at The Rainbow Room and the price quote was for 30 tables at 1000.00 per table and the other 23,000 was for decorating the venue. I wonder of you ladies can guess who the vendor was.

Wow!! You know what I personally think is ridiculous? I was at Preston Bailey's website and some parents from Long Island hired him for their son's BAR MITZVAH!!!! Isn't that just a bit excessive?

I saw 2 photography vendors who just give proofs and 1 album for $5000 - they did do amazing work, but I couldn't get past the feeling I was being totally ripped off.

I know the feeling, i went to a photographer and they wanted $6000 for the digital coffeetable book, when everyone else charges around $1500!! Can you imagine paying $6000 just for the book? That didn't include anything else in the package which was an additional 7000!!

Aw lawd, somebody catch me!!

I didn't get any quotes that made me faint or anything, but what did PISS ME OFF TO NO END was when I would go look at a vendor, they would give me XYZ price, then my sister, who's getting married two months before me, still in peak season, would go to the same vendor and get a lower price for the SAME THING I found that some vendors will look at where you're getting married and jack up the price if they think you can afford to pay more.....which is bs in my book.

Well that (according to my girlfriend who is a bridal retial exec) is true -- have you ever noticed how the line on the contracts for what you pay is a blank? If it was a set price, it would not be -- it is absolutely true that they use all clues -- what you wear when you meet them, ring size, where you are getting married to decide on the price to quote you. That is why website like this are so powerful -- we can talk to each other about pricing -- in fact, if we all using a similar vendor all put into a list what we were pating it would be a nightmare for them because there is so much wiggling on price.

I haven't gotten any outrageous prices. I think I am doing good so far. I wouldn't call it cheap, but not excessive as well. Certain things I was willing to spend $ on and others I didn't care about. Photography I was willing to, and it just so fortunately happened for me that I loved DUET's work and booked them on spot.

I love this site, because all the opinions and posts help create happy 'financial' mediums with each bride and ideas on where to go to pertain to that medium
