Theme weddings

Theme weddings

I've been thinking about wedding themes. I know there are a few girls on here that are having a 'theme' for their wedding (I'm talking about beyond the color scheme).

I've been going back and forth with this idea. I already chose my colors: tiffany blue and hot pink.

Originally, my idea was to have a 'tropical' themed wedding- bright colors, beachy theme. Now I'm not even sure I want to do it. I feel like its so much work, because then I have to figure out how exactly to incorporate the theme into the wedding. I'd want to find 'beachy' favors and would be limited to that. Then try to find a nice balance, as to not overdue the theme, but use it enough so people see it.

I just want everyone's opinion on theme wedding.

Does your wedding have a theme? If so, what is it?
How are you incorporating your theme into the wedding?

And to everyone (regardless of whether or not you're having a theme for your wedding): What do you think of themes? Do you think they add something extra? Do they make the wedding better? Does it remind you of a Sweet 16?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Theme weddings

i dont think our wedding is going to have a theme per se-im looking for more of a feeling..elegant romantic victorian-ish

our rd however, most def will, because i want it to be as far different from the wedding as possible

therefore it will be a down home country hick extravaganza complete with bbq gingham cowboy boots mason jars and wildflowers

Re: Theme weddings

Themes can be tricky (i should know...look at mine). However, I think I like the way they set the pace for a wedding. Like my theme, the whole Godfather-Old Hollywood-Glamourous, Black tie optional theme, really pulled together so easily. I am using feathers, lots of Diamond White, lots sexy, and that Midnight Blue Color is to die for. Even my RH reflects my theme. The only time it turns sweet 16ish is when your wedding cake is a Gucci Bag (IMO)...

Keep it classy and refined and you should be Ok! I love your colors! Its bright and fun. The beachy thing can get tricky, so why not make the 'theme' the ocean and the sunset. Thats a perfect combination. The best beach pics have that color combo.....

Love those pics and the beach theme... 2 of my friends did it and it really was beautiful.. not Sweet 16 ish at all!
I am using a baseball theme. I am keeping everything VERY classy though and am being very careful that it is NOT Sweet 16 ish! Anything that is borderline is out...
FH and I are big Yankees fans so I figured why not focus on that. Plus, it has been a great, fun way to get him involved!

Re: Theme weddings

my theme, if u can call it that, is 2 trees intertwine (very meaningful to me and FH). we're not doing anything that screams our theme but concentrating on colors: white and green and very little brown. for the CP's there gonna be willow branches and some green stem white flowers.
our STD has a tree on it. our katubah gonna have trees on it. and some other details I am still working on it.

I dont think its sweet 16ish at all to have a theme. as long as its not over done and everything yells: THEME! then it looks as if it brings the colors more into focus and there is a thread going thru the whole event.

loved Sandra's pix. def something worth looking into.

Re: Theme weddings

My wedding doesn't really have a theme.....just plain fabulous A little bit of fantasy, a lot of sparkle, and just very much like FH and I.

my theme is winter wonderland, there will be snowflakes incorporated throughout the RH, we have them on the cocktail napkins and matchbooks, on the favor tags

Re: Theme weddings

married 09er crashing (Hope you dont mind!)

My colors were blue, brown and hot pink...

Originally we were going back and forth with the 'theme' issue because of the 'sweet 16' comments. Since I'm allergic to flowers i had no idea what on earth to make my centerpieces...

Since dh proposed on a snapple cap we wanted to incorporate 'tea'- But were really into beachy things so we wanted to do beach...

So we started to mind boggle and believe it or not we made our theme'Tea by the sea' lol.

when we realized that for the reception we could add more of the 'blue and pink' than anything else, it really ended up taking a mind of its own.

We ended up with chrome pillared sand castles (if you need the link I have it but they have since changed their designs) scattered sea glass and those huge finger starfish in white.

You could always incorporate hot pink hibiscus flowers thrown onto the tables with seaglass... or the white starfish really make it look classy....

I'll think a little for you... but dont rule it out. We almost did. IF you want to see pictures let me know and I'll post.

I didn't want to overtake the post- just wanted you to know that I was in the same place as you :)

Re: Theme weddings

we dont have a strong theme but we do have a touch of football because if you know john then you know he LOVES football (i type this as we watch the dvr'd football game from tonight)

we are naming our tables after his favorite buffalo bills players and the place cards will be football jerseys. we are also walking into the fx nfl theme. so far thats really it for the theme...we didnt want to do too much but enough for people to pick up on it
oh and our cake topper is the groom holding a football and the bride on his back like a piggy back

Re: Theme weddings

i wanted a tropical / beachy feel to my wedding too, especially since our hall is on the water and there are palm tree there and we will be having a steel drum band during the ch. however, the centerpieces i really like are not tropical at all, i like the simple high vases with calla lillies. i also originally wanted bright exotic flowers as bouquets for the bm's, but im not so sure anymore, because i would have to pick the right color dress to go with the flowers..... all in all i think i will def have some beachy / tropical touches to my wedding but not EVERYTHING, for instance im not crazy about any beachy invites ! i havent seen many that i really like.

Re: Theme weddings

Thanks for your opinions girls. I asked this in my first post, but maybe it was skipped over. I'm really curious for your answers:

Do you think themes add something special to the wedding? Could a wedding without a theme be just as nice?

Thanks for all your opinions! I'm still going back and forth with ideas..

Re: Theme weddings

I think a theme adds something extra. It doesn't make the wedding, butr helps to tie the colors and thgungs that the couple likes and cares about together. I've been to weddings with no themes and they were all wonderful. Never been to one with, and I guess that's the reason I'm having an underlying theme. HTH.

Re: Theme weddings

YES! A 'theme', for me at least, just makes me feel more well put together... that's just me. However, you don't need a theme! I think the main theme of a wedding is you and FH anyway... and its a perfect theme!

Re: Theme weddings

I think it depends on the theme. Some really do remind me of being at a sweet16 but some just really represent the couple. Also, I think its nice when a theme goes with the venue....like my friend who just got married at OFC had a nautical theme and it went perfect with the place.
