I just went this weekend to Hamlet at Willow Creek in Mount Sinai. We asked to hold a date in August 2005, which Barbara, the coordinator there, stated we could do. She said she would hold the date for a week. However, we got home to find a message that someone else had come in 'money in hand' and she was 'obligated' to give them the date. (this was less than 24 hours after we saw her!) So...they'll hold the date as long as no one else comes along??
I think this is so unprofessional and she went back on her word!! Has this happened to anyone else?!?!?! Sorry--needed to vent.

Re: They did NOT hold the date!!
That's terrible...I guess $$ talks! We were holding our date with Duet because we had circumstances that wouldn't allowe us to leave a deposit, they agreed to hold the date for 3 weeks and if someone with $$ in hand wanted to book they would have called us immediately. All was fine with that arrangement and our date was not given away.
I agree, I would not do business with them.

Well, that sucks BUT I would be grateful that I found out the hall is dishonest BEFORE I booked with them. You don't deserve that kind of treatment.

I can't remember where it was now, but one of the halls i visited ( i think it was jerricho terrace) said that when you 'hold the date' it means that they can't refuse anyone who has seen the place so far but if anyone comes in after you, they will tell them that the date is on hold.

Re: They did NOT hold the date!!
We held the date at Bridgeview for almost a month when they told us that someone else wanted the date. They said that if we wanted to guarantee, they needed a deposit by the following day. We took the $$ the same night. You should have gotten first grabs, even if the other person did have the money on them. JMO: it's a bad way of doing business. If I were you, I would try to get something extra for them screwing up (that's if you're going to book them).

That seems fair. Too bad not all places do this.

Re: They did NOT hold the date!!
I'm so sorry, that is very unprofessional. But look at it in a positive way, now you know what kind of people they are. If their service stinks now, before even booking, I wouldn't hold high hopes for my wedding day. You'll find some place better that will cater to you and only you and not worry about someone else walking in the door. I would call and give them a piece of your mind on how rude and unprofessional they were and are!!!

Re: They did NOT hold the date!!
i am sorry this happened to you. they really should have contacted you first and given you the option to officially book the date. totally unethical, but then again business is business. these companies livelihoods is to make money not friends.
