Thinking of switching my date from 2011 to 2010...thoughts?
Original post by MerSaysEh
Hi all!
I got engaged on Thanksgiving and originally we were thinking of October 2011, but after meeting with some potential planners and discussing it we are considering switching the date to November 2010. Do you think I have enough time if I do that? I haven't started at all except for meeting with potential planners, but I have heard that since it will be less than 12 months and a November wedding we can get some great discounts, I'm just worried, will I have time to do everything? I'm dead set on a fall wedding, so there is no in-between, it is either fall 2010 or fall 2011. Thoughts?
Thanks ladies!

Yes - you can totally do it in less than a year. I've done so much planning, and still have so much time till the big day. I wish my wedding was closer.

I think you could definitely do it within a year. As long as you are flexible with your date and vendors, you should be fine.
ITA. You may not have all of the options that you want, but it is do-able.

soo sweet! I really want to, but as someone mentioned (Christine I think) the final decision is about finances. My dad and FILs are splitting it, and FILs are down (FH is their oldest and they want him married already!) my dad is hesitant because my brother got married in March so money went there and he is paying my last semester of grad school tuition next month, so its a lot of money to get together in a short amount of time. I totally understand that, but I'm hoping that by doing it in November we can save a lot.
Thanks for all the replies so far, soo sweet and encouraging!

The past two years, I've been a bridesmaid in weddings where the bride got engaged in the END of Jan and had it in Nov - it's SO do-able!!!
I agree with everyone - get the RH and church (if you're having your ceremony at a church) set first, and then take it from there!!
If you're worried about finances, maybe just have a DOC instead of a full-out wedding planner?

Absolutely, I think you just need to be organized and with the help of a planner(which it sounds like you might have) you can totally do it! I would just focus on booking major vendors first and then worry about little details.

Yeah, the thing is my family (mom especially) live in Canada and I really don't know any vendors or anyone here, so I really feel like I need the help. BUt I do have a planner in mind who is VERY reasonable - her full planning is almost the same as some other planners' DOC prices, so I don't think that is the issue. Its more about getting the money together for the big stuff like RH. Thanks though!!

You can DEF get it all done in time! Time management and use the internet as a tool to help you. Honestly, I got engaged last New Years and wanted a Sept or Oct wedding. We decided on 2010 because FH's sister go married in May. I HATE this long engagement and I ask him EVERY DAY if we can just go to city hall and get married and cancel everything! Nov 2010 is DEF enough time and no matter what you pick, it will be BEAUTIFUL!!!

I completely agree with this. FH and I were originally trying to plan for only a 9 month engagement, but the spaces weren't available, so we waited.
