So sad. this man should die. i hope he gets the death penalty. he had something like 13 other arrests--and he was roaming the streets. that video is so disturbing.

she actually grew up in Wantagh and when her parents divorced she went to live in FL with the mother. the stepfather was late picking her up and she started walking on her own. how horrible, those parents have to live with this the rest of their lives channel 2 was in wantagh interviewing the grandparents. it was so sad. i feel so horrible.

This is news to me.. but then again.. I told Jim she was dead as soon as I saw her picture.

Shame that this man has done this before and the justice system failed to present a worthy case and he was aquitted.

I think it was a bad idea to show the picture of him grabbing her. It would have been one thing if they showed an edited photo saying 'This man is wanted for questioning' If I were a criminal and I know that I was caught on film there would be no use keeping the girl alive. Yes, murder is a harsher charge than kidnapping but how many kidnappers keep children for fun and games with no intention of later killing them.. very few (altho I know they're out there). Showing him on TV with her only sped it up. JMO.

Shame.

I totally disagree. Statistics show that once children are kidnapped they are usually killed iwthin 48 hours. Once a child is kidnapped the police have to get on the ball and do EVERYTHING possible to find that child immediately.

I cried too this morning as I watched the live report on Good Morning America. The detectives were so emotional.

I can't believe this guys previous record. What's wrong with our justice system?

This is the first I had heard of her death.

I just heard of this too and it's very disheartening to me that the justice system failed not once but twice...The jurors who let him go in 1997 are just as responsible as he is. They failed the victim back then and they failed Carlie now by letting a pyscho run free. It makes me want to be that much more of a hawk towards my future children and NOT let them walk anywhere until I feel they are at a comfortable age. To me, 11 still seems young. Things happen at any age - true but I'd rather be on the side of caution than to have to face something as horrendous as this.

I feel so bad for these people - I really do..
