This coming Christmas...

This coming Christmas...

For many of us this will be our last Christmas at home - are any of you girls thinking of splitting up from FH this year and spend the last Christmas with each of your own families? This came up in a conversation last night and i think i'm gonna do it - i want to experience running down the stairs with my sister and opening gifts together with our parents one last time before I get married - as cheesy as it might sound lol...anyone thinking of doing the same thing?

I am definitely opening gifts with my family Christmas morning. But he'll be with us for dinner.

Unfortunately my FH has to work that week, so I'm going to see my parents. Next year though will be different. It upsets me that I'll be without him

LOL I haven't lived at home for awhile and since fh and I have been together for so many years, we usually have to decide what we're doing for the holidays. I usually go to Thankgiving with my family and last year he went to Christmas with his family alone. We usually go to my house first then his house but there was some controversy so we just split up. I was supposed to go there later but it just didn't happen. I love both families but I don't know what it will be like once we're married. Especially since FILs are considering moving to Atlanta in a few years.

No. For the past 5 Christmas's we have split the day. We haven't opened Christmas gifts the same way when we were 'kids' in I can't remember how long. I go to his house first at about 12 and we do Christmas Lunch/dinner there and exchange gifts with his family and then at 3 we go to my house do another dinner and exchange more gifts. We do this for all holidays and wouldn't change a thing! I guess we are lucky that we only live 10 minutes away from each other!

OMG Santina I just got Goosebumps reading your post. I can’t believe this is our last Christmas before we’re married!

I will continue eating w/ FI family Christmas Eve and then he’ll eat w/ mine on Christmas Day. However, on Christmas morning we will spend it with our own families.

Well the good thing for me is that FH is catholic and I am jewish so we have the best of both worlds :)

Thanksgiving will be a toughy

Re: This coming Christmas...

Thats been an argument in my house for a while now. FH's family does every holiday, holiday eve, etc. together, and while we spend Xmas morning at my house just me, mom and sometimes my brother, we spend the rest of the day with his. We spend Thanksgiving apart though. That is one holiday my mom refuses to give up or go anywhere else for, and FH refuses to go anywhere but his familys house for it.

ETA: Therefore the holidays should be interesting come next year!

I will be spending Christmas with my FH and FIL's. Since my family are practicing witnesses and dont believe in Christmas thats not happening. Since they disowned me for not wanting to be in the religion it makes it even better that I'll be with my inlaws who treat me like family.

I don't think it's crazy or cheezy!! I know unaperla understands how important that is to our family's.

I'm def spending this last Christmas at home with the family. .

This year is crazy, actually, my grandmother is taking our my whole family (FI included) on a cruise for Christmas, so I will be with my whole family for my last Christmas and he will be without his. (He doesn't seem to mind when it comes to a free vacation).

FH doesn't really spend time with his family during holidays. (they don't get along)

we spend most of the time at my house for the holidays...and with friends.

I'm lucky like rachie. Fh and I are different religions so there is no xmas conflict. We get to spend both days with my family and my FIL's even come over to my parents house on xmas. So we only have to worry about a conflict for Thanksgiving.

luckily his family does christmas eve, and mine does christmas day.... so we get to spend all of our christmases with both!

Re: This coming Christmas...

We spend them apart anyway. No such thing in FH's family as spending the holidays together before you're married. I am of course welcome over there, but he can't spend any holidays with my family. So out of defiance, I spend them w/my family. Its always been a big argument so I'm looking forward to next year when we can do whatever we want for the holidays.

So opening presents in my pajamas w/my siblings it is!

We're in a similar situation. I'm catholic and FH is jewish so we'll always be with my family for Christmas. I'm just sad because I have to give up Thanksgiving. This will be the first year that I'm not going to be home in NY for it.
