This is scary (and sad) Not meant to offend anyone!
I am not sure I should even be posting this, but I am curious to know if anyone else here had the same crazy thought as me. I was discussing this with some people, and they said they thought the same thing, but nobodyl likes to bring it up, as its a terrible thing to think about. I am not trying to minimize the people who have lost thier lives or anything like that, but I just cant help thinking about this.
Ever since 9/11, there has been some tragic things going on in NYC (such as the plane crash in Belle Harbor, and the Staten Island ferry among others). Whenever a tragedy like this happens you always read about someone that survived 9/11 getting killed in one of these tragedies.
Do you ever think, fate has a plan for us and even if we escape it at one time, it catches up with you later? Im not saying that everyone who survived 9/11 has escaped for the moment, but maybe there were some who did?
I know this sounds very morbid, but I cant help thinking about this whenever I read about this. I hope I didnt offend anyone by writing this, that was not my intent if I did. My prayers go out to all families and victims of all these tragedies.
What do you think?

I think that it seems like people survived 9/11 only to be killed by some other tragety because the media tend to focus in that point.
I believe that we all have a destiny and that when its our time, its our time. We should make the most of our time her on earth.

I must admit I have thought of this numerous times. I think its incredibly strange how many people are spared and ...then not. It's a terribly morbid thought, but quite spiritual in a way.

Honestly, I think we are all predestined....a plan has been made for us and when it's our time, it's our time, however unfortunate it can be. My cousin was murdered at the age of 14!! Our back-up pastor and his wife just gave birth to their 4 child and only son, knowing he had no brain. They believed that God should take him and they chose to carry full term. There is a reason why we are all here and a reason why we go when we go.

Somehow I do believe.
There is a representative I use to deal with from another company. They were able to exacpe the tower right before collasping and survived. Two weeks later this person died in a horrific car crash. I had gotten goosebumps when I heard this because its like it was this persons fate.

wow...
i am not offended at all....
I remember when the belle harbor tragedy happened and on the news was about a man who walked down many flights of stairs at the towers and then walked home. He was going to visit his family and was killed in the plane crash.
its so sad....

I think their is a plan for all of us. I dont think it will catch up to you at a later time, but i think their is a plan. My mom's friend used to work on the 75th floor of the WTC, in the attacks of 93 she had the flu and was not in work that day. on 9/11, her son had a cold and had to take him to the doctor.
sometimes it takes a tragedy to bring ppl closer.

I thought about the same thing today because they had a guy in the news that died in the ferry crash but was a survivor of 9/11. Honestly I think God has a plan for us and when it's our time it's our time. I don't think that this guy cheated death and so he was destined to go.
It's so sad

The movie 'Final Destination' first put this thought into my head. I do believe our time is set, and when we go, we go. Maybe some people did escape their fate on 9/11 and its catching up with them. But I also have to believe that it was some people's destiny to escape it. After all, someone has to be able to tell the story. And let's not forget, the media LOVES things like that, so they make you think that way when they can.
ETA: My dad's girlfriend worked in the trade center and was there for the '93 bombing and had to be carried out, and on 9/11 she had just left the building not 5 minutes before the first plane hit...the car that she got into had only reached the corner when it happened. Her whole life has been one of achievement 'against the odds,' so I have to believe it was her destiny to live through this as well.

I think about this all the time. I think there is a 'plan' for everyone and when you time is up its up. I am terrified of dying. I dont want to know that I am dying.

Re: This is scary (and sad) Not meant to offend anyone!
Things happen for reasons. We can neve really explain them. One of the great mysteries of the universe
One of the survivors Lauren Manning, worked for Cantor Fitzgerald. She was running late that morning to work, she was in the lobby when the first plane hit and was doused with flames and jet fuel. She was a fireball. Burned over 80% of her body. In the book 'love Greg and Lauren' which was written by her husband Lauren says she wanted to die, but all she thought of was she had to live for her son.
She pulled through. Many surgeries and therapy, but she is a survivor. She is such a true inspiration.
Father Michael Judge, why him. Why did he have to leave us. He was the first casualty. He was giving the last rights to a fallen firefighter and was killed by falling debris.
Sometimes things happen and we just cant explain them.
Look at ppl who were suppose to be in certain places but something stopped them. An alarm clock didnt go off, a dog tugging at their leg, they have a doctors appointment, stubbed their toe...anything that delayed them a few moments. Why?? why that morning, that day, why them???
we all have a destiny and we should not take anything for granted

I think it's a coincidence that the media amplifies.
So many people did survive 9/11 (people that got out of the buidlings, people that were near by or should have been there) that when another tragedy occurs there will always be a chance that someone escaped death or injury on 9/11.
I don't mean to offend or disrepect anyone with regard to the people that didn't survive 9/11.

I actually find the media's attention on 9/11 when other tragic events happen totally unjustified!!! Why take away from one tragedy to remind of another!!!!

Re: This is scary (and sad) Not meant to offend anyone!
I understand how you feel! But, I have a slightly diff. take (although I guess we'll never know till we die ourselves).
So many people survived the terrorist attacks (at least 50,000 people worked there, so at least 47,000 people survived), that when an accident happens now, it's not unlikely that it could include one of them. Esp. Staten Island related, since so many people living on Staten Isl. worked in the WTC. (One town on Staten Isl. lost more people than any other community).
So, I just think it's chance. But, I can see where you're coming from too.

Re: This is scary (and sad) Not meant to offend anyone!
I am a 'survivor' of 9/11. It wasn't my time. Call it fate, destiny, luck or whatever. I was injuried but I am alive.
I agree with someone who said here, when those of the 'survivors' die in a tragic event it brings it to attention more acutely. I don't think however it's death catching up.
I think people should realize tragic and shocking events happen everyday, we just hear about only a few.
I don't think my days are numbered anymore now then they were before. Am I more aware of life and how precious it is to me? Absolutely. Everyday is a sad burden for me but I tried to bear the weight knowing that I did 'survive' so I shouldnt waste it.
Life is to be lived.
Even if i knew I HAD to die by a certain date, I'd still like to live my life to the fullest. You see tons of stupid chain emails about taking time now for the little things before time passes us by. I think those are silly but I totally understand the message. Have fun, life is short, period. Be it tomorrow or ten years from now, we must all come to an end.

Re: This is scary (and sad) Not meant to offend anyone!
my story, I was suppose to be in 3 WFC. I love walking through the WTC plaza, getting a krispy kreme and just admiring the towers before I actually go into the building. I was suppose to be in that area at the time of everything.
Instead I am of the running late people. My alarm didnt go off..
Instead I watched from the train the planes hit the towers, ran to my office on wall street, made 3 calls and got on the last train out of the city. I watched the first tower go down from the train.
My company lost 11 people. I was moved to Parsippany, to be layed off barely a month later.
I have learned dont have regrets, live life to its fullest and always tell your family you love them

Re: This is scary (and sad) Not meant to offend anyone!
I have become slightly obessive about death since I survived 9/11.
I don't want to die stupid.
That's my new thing.
I make sure I drive carefully watch what Im doing and take special precautions when I can. Why?
Look I survived some very messed up crap, I dont want people to say 'She got through that, but made a stupid mistake and died in a senseless car accident'
*shrug* go fig.
ETA: Which is why I sit in the train and don't RUSH to be the first off.
SO many people hurt on that ferry where hurt because they were rushing to get off that thing.
My father and I have a phrase called 'pushing it' it's when you are pushing life or actions to move in your direction. Going way out of the way to make something happen is pushing it. I don't push it anymore. I just sorta flow.
Re: This is scary (and sad) Not meant to offend anyone!
I don't believe in fate or destiny...
my family used to 'joke' (although its not so funny) that you should be too close to me, b/c in a short time I was around some bad accidents:
1. I was in the LC nextdoor to the one that was taken over by a crazy psycho with a gun at SUNY Albany (SWAT team kicked us out while taking a final )
2. I was working at JFK when TWA flight exploded
3. I was at the Atlanta Olympics when the bomb went off...
but really...how many times have you been in a close call accident? slipped by a ledge?
everyone who was in NY on 9/11 is going to die...the media just focuses on this type of coincidence (the real idea of Bowling for Columbine - media scaring the public)
