It is very sad to watch this happen to friends or family.
I tried to talk a friend out of marrying her cheating man of 5 years (aside from paying for the divorce from his first wife all by herself!). She totally blew me off, citing jealousy on my part.
They planned a lavish wedding and reception at a posh L.I. site costing $20k ALONE. She put down ALL the deposits and bought a dress. About 3 months after the engagement he broke it off. she lost about $8k. A year later he returned, hat in hand, ready to marry. She agreed (she still had the dress), they married in Vegas and had a small reception upon return. They separated about a year later and started divorce proceedings. And now she has to pay for another divorce - her own!
As someone else above said, some just have to learn for themselves and the hard way. Thankfully no children are involved.
