what do you call your in laws now that you are getting married? I have been calling them by their last name from the first time we met and as the years have gone by I then cut it down to the first letter of their last name. Mr. & Mrs. B. I just don't feel comfortable calling them by their first name. My FH said just call them mom and dad because that is what I am going to call your father after we say our I do's. He is just too sweet (FYI - my mother is no longer in the picture and we have not spoken to one another in years. Loooonggggg story) You have to call them something right? lol

So Funny I am having the exact same issue. I call them Mr. and Mrs. C. I am not really into calling them Mom and Dad even though I love them lol. They have told me to call them by their first names but it is really hard to switch.

I am so glad it is not just me. I remember one time I called FFIL 'Pops' and my FH was there and said that his dad had a smile on his face. I spoke with my FSIL and she said, 'I just call them by their first name' and I just can't do it. I am very close with my FMIL and don't know how she would feel of being called mom by me. It's just weird. I asked one of my friends who got married not to long ago and she does not call her MIL anything. She always says, 'Hi! How are you?' lol

I call them by their first names and don't plan to change it once we get married. Maybe i'll refer to them as grandma and grandpa once we have kids but I only have one mom & dad and thats it lol

My FMIL already told me to call her mom once we got engaged and I haven't been able to do that yet. It's definitely a weird transition! I would say maybe ask and just take away the awkwardness

I love how this is a little strange for all of us. I don't feel weird calling his mom by her first name but for some reason calling FFIL by his first name is so weird. I'm comfortable with both of them but it's strange. I'm hoping to keep calling them by their names since Mom and Dad feels weird too.
FH has always called my parents by Mr. and Mrs. so it will probably be a more awkward transition for him to figure out. At least I'm halfway there hahahaha

I even asked my FBIL did he ever call his inlaws mom and dad and I think he mentioned it once or twice. I have no problem calling FFIL 'Pops'. I guess because no one calls him that and it's kinda my name for him. Lol However for FMIL, I just don't know. My FH said his mom would love it if I called her mom. I said what about I call her, 'Hi! How are you,' like my friend does with her MIL and call it a day. At least I have 284 days left to think about it, but who's counting =p

Not silly at all! It's funny how many of us are going through this though lol...FH parents still write Mr & Mrs and their full last name (which is very long and a mouthful lol) when they give me a birthday/Christmas card or even when they call me and their like 'oh hey Amanda its mr and their full last name.' So I feel like they don't want me to call them anything else. We have been together 7 years now and nothing has changed lol. I don't call them anything now I just say 'hi how are you' unless I am writing out a card then I write mr and mrs. Once we're married I will call them by their first names just because I think it will be weird to call them mr and mrs. but I won't ever call them mom and dad. My parents are much more easy going and FH calls my parents sometimes by a nickname when their joking around or mr/mrs X. They will have no problem calling having FH call them by their first names.

I call them by their first names and always have. I started out calling them Mr and Mrs Lastname but they've both always insisted on their first names. I don't personally like the idea of calling them mom and dad and feel like it's kinda disrespectful to my real mom and dad.. Idk I think I think too much about things lol

That's why I feel more comfortable calling my FFIL 'Pops' no one calls him that and I don't call my dad that. I call my dad 'Dad' or Daddy' lol As far as my FMIL, I think we have an amazing relationship and I love her to pieces. She actually bought my wedding dress for me as my mother and I have not spoke in yyeeeeaaaarrrrsssss and that was something she wanted to do for me and I was so taken back by that. Don't feel so bad because I think too much about things too = ) lol

whats strange for both of us is fh has worked with my father . who owns a construction company, so in front of other employees he's not going to say dad he calls him by his first name. So he calls my mom by her first name. My parents never liked mr amd mrs c anyway. I don't think fh is comfortable calling them mom and dad especially bc its been first names for so long. As fore me whats strange is fh has a step mothee who he calls by first name. Basically only hear her called by her first name, so that would be strange for me to call her mom and fh to call her by her first name. As for his father I call him by his first name too bc I call his wife by her first name. Its a weird transition clearly for everyone (glad this is common!!) My mother always did the 'oh hi' wwithout saying any name to my grandma lol so I know that well!! I call my parents every name in the book, mom, dad, mommy, daddy, pops, mama dukes(this was years and years ago but still) so there isnt much left for me to single out for fh father. But again I think calling his father dad or anything other then his first name and then I call his wife by her first name is weird!! So I think I will keep it that way, my guess is fh will do the same with my parents but that's up to him my parents don't care so long as it is not mr and mrs.
Geez edited for typos sorry about that!!

What about daddy-o for your FH? Lol. My MOH calls her inlaws mom and dad and sees nothing wrong with it. What is hard for me is I just don't see myself calling my FIL's by their first name so I think I will call FMIL 'Hi' and FFIL 'How are you' or vice versa

I doubt I'll ever call the mom and dad. It's just strange to me. I call them by their last names and they hate it, they prefer first names but I can't do it. So I just wait until they make eye contact with me if I need to talk to them. lol

When I first met FH's parents, they told met to call them by their first name. It's really weird to me, I'm not sure why, but when I say his parents' names out loud, it just sounds odd to me.
When we get married, I will continue to call them by their first names. They aren't my parents and I could never imagine calling anyone else mom or dad. I have noticed that sometimes, my FMIL refers to my FFIL as Dad when she's talking and it freaks me out a little, but she usually corrects herself. I will say she has started signing cards mom & dad...not really feeling it, but I can deal with it on a card, not actually saying the words.

I call my in-laws by their first names. My parents are my mom and dad, not his, so I won't ever call them that. When we have kids maybe I'll call them grandma and grandpa lol
