Interesting! You take the bath at a temple? Or it's something you do at home?

I'm always interested in other people's religion!

u do it at the place called mikveh
it's not the temple
if u ever saw the episode of Sex and the City where Charlotte converts and immerses herself in water, that is exactly what it is

Re: this was ehhh awkward....

i have VERY religious family and friends

my friend who got married recently did this - all religious jewish brides do. it is pretty sexual but its very matter-of-fact. they talk about the rules about when you have yuor period and how to have sex in the best positions to get pregnant and stuff...

soooooooo.....enjoy!!

Oh wow, I don't envy you at all, that sounds totally awkward. But you wouldn't be doing it if you felt like it wasn't something you wanted to do (in terms of the religious ceremony) so you will be fine. But definitely tell us everything she tells you, I love hearing people's advice on how to be sexually 'correct' and all that!

I work in a fertility office with a large orthodox population. So when I first heard about all these things I was like wow. But the meaning behind it is very cool.
We have special protocols for the religious couples because of all the rules. I'm not sure if 'rules' is the right woord, but you get what I mean! Lol

First of all, did you have your appointment? Any news on how it went? For Jewish ladies there's a good book called 'Marital Intimacy: A Traditional Jewish Approach.' (on amazon)

Religious brides immerse before they get married and then after their period for the rest of their life. During their period, they have to separate from their husband. It keeps things interesting.

A mikvah is usually close to a temple I guess, but in my experience they're not that clearly labelled, you have to know where to go. The water in a mikvah is special, and you can't substitute your bathtub for example. Another really really good book is: The Waters of Eden by Aryeh Kaplan.

These books talk about the mystical and spiritual aspects of sex, the mikvah, and immersion, and it's affect on your soul.

Enjoy. :)
