Those of you who had a day wedding

Those of you who had a day wedding

Sorry to crash your board but I have a question for past brides...

My questions is do you wish you would have had it at night????

My dilemma is that I love my hall but I think the wedding ceremony and reception is to early!!!

I am worried about the way people will dress and if people will have just as much fun as if it was at night.

I am debating on changing it from day to night, however FH doesn't want to spend more money... and I don't really want to go for a cheaper place...

Any advice??

We partied hard! We had a great time and were able to take pics the whole time and my pics are GORGEOUS! I wouldn't worry! As long as theres alcohol and a DJ and food you're good to go!

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

We chose the day because we wanted the day. Not because of money. We wanted the sun. Our place has beautiful grounds and it wasn't worth covering them up in the dark.

You can party with the sun out...and we did.

We had a FABULOUS time! And for those who had to drive home (we had a Sunday wedding) a far distance, they appreciated it and they may not have come if it were a later wedding.... Plus, after we went back to the hotel, we hung out with friends and family for a few more hours so it was great!

I didn't have a day wedding but I have been to a few of them and they're a lot of fun!

and when the reception is over, you can move the party to the OOT hotel or somewhere else

ETA: I was actually just thinking on the drive home from work today (because at 5:10pm there was still a little daylight out) that I wish our ceremony was earlier than 5pm. in November, it is pitch dark by then. the room we had the ceremony in resembles a green house with skylights and lots of windows. It is a gorgeous room but it lost a lot of it's charm because it was dark out.

We had a day wedding and it was the best ever!!!!! All of our guests partied hard and got to see our hall in the daytime and at night when they were leaving...It was more than we could have ever wanted!!!!

No regrets at all! The dance floor was packed all day and nobody left early (I see that a lot at night weddings). We had an outdoor ceremony and had the opportunity to take pics on the beach and on the grounds on a beautiful sunny day. Ad after the reception, we had an informal after party, which was really great, b/c we got to kick back and spend quality time in a way that you can't when you are making the proverbial rounds. I feel like having a day wedding made the whole event last longer. Why waste the bulk of your wedding day waiting around for sunset? Fear not, you made the right choice!

Didn't have a day wedding but been to a whole bunch---just as fun and the party usually continues onward into the night---terrific time always!

Some people griped, some stupid people didn't dress appropriately and others tried to imply that my wedding wasn't expensive or important because it was during the day.

Having a day wedding was what DH and I wanted and what worked best for our families. We had a wonderful wedding and a very fun after-party and a brunch the next morning.

You need to do what's right for you and FH. Is it more important to you to have it at the place you chose or to have it at night?

We had a day wedding and loved it. We wanted a more casual wedding anyway, and having it during the day was perfect.

Our reception was over by 3pm, so we were able to go home, relax, and then go out that night and have drinks.

I've been to one day wedding, and it was a lot of fun, people were dancing up a storm!

I don't regret it at all!

A few people showed up dressed more casually than appropriate- but I can tell you that is just them being rude, not b/c it was a day wedding. Who wears jeans to ANY wedding?

It didn't affect the dancing or the party mood at all.

I loved having a day wedding..although it was such an early start...I made all the preparations so that we would have enough time for photos...however, my photographer claims that 'all day weddings are rushed & don't allow for the most creative photos'

There are times (because of what he said to me) that I wished I would have went ahead and booked the twilight --- places like the Metropolitan offered it - you could start in the afternoon into the night.Perhaps then my photographer could have had more creative pics? haha..

I also loved having a day wedding b/c the sun was out - but my photographer claims that noon is the WORST time to take photos outside - it makes you squinty and casts nasty shadows...

so I don't know...I'm bitter about my photographer...

I'm glad we had a day wedding. The only thing that I didn't like was having to wake up so early to get everything done. It probably would've been more relaxing to have several hours to get ready. A day wedding was great b/c we had the ceremony on the beach, the cocktail hour outside, and we didn't pass out right after the reception from exhaustion.
ETA: Our guests partied a lot and dressed appropriately for the wedding.

Re: Those of you who had a day wedding

I originally envisioned an evening wedding because i wanted candlelight everywhere.. but we ended up with a day wedding because we chose a Sunday and didnt want our guests to leave early if it was an evening affair. We were still able to use candles though and they were very pretty.

I'm so happy we had it during the day!! The sunlight was absolutely gorgeous streaming through the windows (it helped that the Carlyle is all windows) and it made for some great pictures.

Another benefit of a day wedding is that you get to continue the party after the wedding if you want. We had everyone come back to our hotel and we continued the party there. As a matter of fact, there was another bride leaving the hotel when we arrived back there to go to the Carlyle, and when she got back to the hotel from her wedding, we were still partying in the bar!
The afterparty really helped us talk to our friends and relatives who had travelled a long way to come to the wedding because they were all at the hotel.
Only problem was that i kept drinking at the after party and had more than i should've..

But a day wedding can defintely be just as romantic and pretty as an evening one. The tone you set with your invitation and decorations will dicate the formality. If you are worried about people not dressing appropriately you can always put 'black tie optional' on the invite, which will let people know that its on the formal side.

i had the same concerns but everyone was dressed nicely (so many guys wore tuxes even though it was a sunday day wedding and i didn't ask for black tie onthe invites) and everyone danced like crazy!

i did write 'formal reception to follow' on the bottom of the invite though.

Re: Those of you who had a day wedding

We decided to have a daytime wedding (12:00-5:00) for a few reasons, mainly because many of our relatives were driving some distance, and we wanted them to have the option of doing it all in one day. Also, a large group of our guests have children with sitters (we decided to not have children), and there were also a number of older guests who may not want to stay up late or drive at night.

Personally, I would have preferred evening, but I'm glad we chose the afternoon for those reasons. Plus, you don't have all day to get nervous--you pretty much get up and start doing things right away!

What times are you looking at?
