How did it go when you got your second puppy??? I just got my second puppy and Missy plays a bit rough. Im just nervous that the new puppy is gonna get hurt because he is soo small. How did you handle it if your older dog was extremely playful and rough???

Re: Those of you with two dogs....
my problem was the opposite...Rough puppy, quiet older dog. I will only let the pups rough play go so far, then I stop it, and do not let it go past that point. At times I would seperate with a baby gate between the kitchen and living room. A lot of time and patience was needed, and I am glad I put it in, because my older dog is quite frail now (diagnosed with Lymphoma) and the puppy outweighs him by 20lbs!!!

lukin was jealous alittle bit when tink came along. she was sooooo tiny and i think it freaked him out alittle bit. she wanted to play with him and he would just back up. it was only a few weeks before they were best friends.

Re: Those of you with two dogs....
bailey was a little apprehensive with him at first....took her about 2 weeks to warm up to him. She's a naturally jealous dog (like if DH and I are cuddling, she HAS to get between us). They play rough with each other (a 85 lb Rottie vs a 35 lb pug/beagle) all the time now. They both instigate too.....geez they are crazy.
Missy will know when she is hurting him if he yelps. It's also a dominance thing-she's showing him that she's the boss and it's her territory. As long as it remains playful and not painful we don't stop our dogs from wrestling and playing!

Re: Those of you with two dogs....
My female beagle is now 2 years old, when I got my lil 2 month old male yorkie. I think, it was better to get the male smaller breed. I originally wanted a chi, but I love my lil yorkie: sparky. At first, tic tac wanted to kill him, she was so jealous, he was getting all of the attention. We literally had to sepearate them. They can fight, bad like cats and dog. In the beggining, the beagle wanted to kill the yorkie, but now, they are starting to become calm. I leave them alone now for about 1-2 hours, and they are fine. So far it has been, 2 months they are a little calm. .
