Re: those trends no longer in style.

I have this cape like thing that I wore like 8-9 years ago I wore it on my honeymoon I loved it. i havent woren it since. I decidedto wear it the other day and everybody is like that is so cool. Where did you get it. it is very warm but like the poncho it will go out of style again. But it is warm and for now its great. Ill retire it back to my closet when it goes back out of style

Re: those trends no longer in style..

For the simple reason that it is a trend, is why I don't normally buy them!! I stick to more classic things-button down blouses (NY & CO), regular boot cut jeans with no details

The only things I'll follow are colors and some minor things that I'll wear even if it's not trendy anymore because I like it that much!!

Re: those trends no longer in style..

I take a long time to warm up to trends, so if I do buy something its usually going out of style by then. I also stick to button down shirts and black pants or jeans. I have gone out on a limb recently and bought brown pants. It was a big step for me.

This is me exactly.
I don't have the money, time, or closet space to bother with trendy clothes.
Although sometimes they are really cute and I think maybe it's time for me to get a little more hip...

Oh no! That is one trend that I hope never comes back in style!!

Most of the trendier stuff I keep for a few years hoping it will come back then start to weed stuff out as I move or run out of room. There are a few things that I am glad that I did hold onto since they did come back!!
I bought my favorite poncho a few years ago (granted I'm not sure it was in then but I am really glad it is now!!! ) and I am glad that it made the move with me when I moved in with FH.

Re: those trends no longer in style..

I tend to buy a mix of trendy and classic clothing. The trendier clothing I try not to spend as much money on as the classics (with some exceptions).

I find in fashion things don't go in and out of style - they FADE in and out - like for example ponchos - they have been around for a while - but it takes time for things to catch on and become mainstream - then, becuase everyone has them it takes time for things to die out.

For me - I try to reinvent my clothing to keep the trendier items up to date - this works for a season or two - or more depending on the item.

In general though I try to make it a rule to give away any items that don't flatter me or that are out of style. And I usually give the out of style items away (or ebay them) a little before they are TOTALLY out of style so there is still some appeal to them.

But then of course I am out buying the next new thing.

This winter my goal is not to buy ANY black pants - I find I fall into fashion ruts that way - I find it more creative for me to play with colors and textures in my clothing instead of just throwing on my black pants and whatever shirt. (although I have those days too)

Re: those trends no longer in style..

I have to say, I usually go the classic, preppy route when it comes to clothes, though I do splurge on the occasional trendy top. Most of my clothes are able to be worn for a while until they show wear and tear or don't fit.

Today I am wearing an oatmeal-y-brown tweed kilt with a brown sweater and brown tights and clogs. The clogs are almost 4 years old, the skirt and tights are two years old and the sweater is new. Somehow it all goes together.
