I have to sleep it off usually. I first have to remove myself from the situation that has made me anxious and sleep.

I tried Paxil, it was just ok.

I'm on medication and I have been for about a year. It has really helped me a lot.

if it's something that comes and goes, you can speak to your MD about xanax AS NEEDED (it can be addictive)....if it is a more chronic issue, you can try paxil and other RX. You need to speak to your doctor.

I take valerian root, I refused medication and doctor told me to try that and it helped greatly. I only take it when I feel myself getting keyed up and heading into anxiety/panic mode.

I also went through years of therapy. Have you tried therapy?

I usually get the anxiety from replaying a certain event in my head. So its hard to remove myself from the situation. I have a problem where I dwell on things I cant change and that causes the anxiety to the point where I cant sleep. [/QUOTE

I have the exact same anxiety right now, I haven't slept well in 6 days.

I hope you figure it out.

Leah, I suffer from anxiety too and I refuse to go on meds. I've found that meditation helps with that. As soon as I go to bed at night and close my eyes, my head starts to spin and I start getting all of this awful images inmy head (my mother dying, joey dying while skydiving, being in a bad car accident, etc). What I do is i think of a place that is calming and i take really long, deep breathes and I concentrate on the place that makes me feel safe. It helps me relax and the long breaths help me meditate on my breathing and I'm usually out like a light within a few minutes. 9 times out of ten it works. The only time that doesn't work well is when I'm in a big crowd (a lot of people, sporting events, concerts, are huge anxiety starters for me).

Valerian Root does help, you can get it at any drug store. Have you tried deep breathing or muscle relaxation techniques when you first start to feel the anxiety coming on?

I do the same thing, keeps repeating on me until i'm obsessing about it. Xanax helps ALOT but it's so addicting and I try to stay away from it. I was taking way too much for a while and it made the Anxiety worse when I tried to stop. Lately, I find a glass of wine helps!

Really though, try the Xanax, just be careful.

Read the book from Panic to Power by Lucinda Basset. I found it to be really helpful.

I just ordered her CD/DVD self help tapes which is a 15 week program which teaches you how to help yourself deal with panic attacks. It also comes with a relaxation cd which is my favorite part!

IM all for going the herbal route. DH is completely against medication. He has a problem even with Tylenol lol. When you feel the panic coming on and take it, does it help it to subside???

My anxiety seems similar to yours. I replay things over and over. I've had many sleepless nights because of it.

Valerian root and therapy helped me out.

I take it in the tinture form f valerian root. 5 drops if I get nxious at work and need to still function and 10-20 drops if I need to sleep at night or I'm having a bad episode. I would follow the bottle directions, which is what I did. They also come in capsule form but that really makes me sleepy. It really does help my anxiety subside. Even with herbal you don't want to over due it though. You can find it at any health store.

With therapy I was able to identify more clearly what was sending me there and how I could prevent myself from getting to the point where i feel like I need to go to the hospital because I'm feel like I'm dying. Let me know if you want me to FM you my therapists name and number. She really did help me a lot.

I'm not a therapist but do have a psych degree and have taken some masters classes in cognitive therapy. It sounds like slightly more than anxiety. Your constant dwelling on a particular situation is somewhat obsessive-compulsive. Not to say you have OCD...I am in no way diagnosing you since I could potentially have no idea what I'm talking about , but I would definitely suggest some form of therapy to figure out why your brain chooses to play over things repeatedly, thus causing the anxiety and panic. Xanax will definitely help calm you in the panic situations, but if you don't find the reason, the xanax will only placate the situation, the episodes won't disappear. Good Luck!

Lea, i dont suffer from anxiety but its one of the few things joe does suffer from. He has been on medication since he was 13. The whole thing about medication is that you have to keep trying different kinds until you find the right one for you, and sometimes its not that the medication itself is not good but can be the dosage, even just 50mg can make a huge difference. And also while you are on medication you constantly have to change the dosage bc at times its worse than others so when for weeks or months its bad then you take more and vice versa. A therapist can be very helpful, if you need a recommendation let me know. If you want to talk more about this, feel free to FM me

Im the same exact way. I dread bedtime because I have a lot of thoughts too. Sometimes I wanna slap DH in his sleep because he falls out like a log. I dont know how he does it. This morning I woke up at around 6 am and knew it would be hard for me to go back to sleep. I started breathing deep and trying to clear my mind, and I finally fell back asleep. Sometimes waking up is harder than falling asleep, though. Only because I want to feel better and I havent yet.

I wanna slap my FH also when i'm like this and he's sleeping like a log.

Re: Those who suffer from anxiety

I am curious how you dealt with your wedding day. I cannot stand to be the center of attention, I hate having my picture taken and I just know I will require 3 shots of tequila to leave my room before the ceremony!

I don't want to drink any alcohol if I can help it, but at this point it's either that or narcotics!

Re: Those who suffer from anxiety

I have xanax prescribed to me, but I try only to use it for panic attacks, and only at home when I can sleep it off.

Lately the attacks have been more frequent.

A stiff drink helps me, but I am not recommending alcoholism.

Stay away from things like coffee or medication that makes you hyper. Remove yourself from situations that cause the bad, frustrating types of stress. Learn not to pick up the cell phone.

My cell phone triggers it. When i hear the text message alert, I want to throw myself out a closed window. I blame one of my bridesmaids and my best friend for that.

Be honest with the people around you about how much crap you can take right now; you will need them to lay off you in the coming months/weeks/days.
