I am considering New Years Eve 2013 as a wedding date, I am curious about any obstacles I will face so wanted to share my idea. Anyone have any thoughts?

Congrats... your wedding is just around the corner! Thanks so much, this is VERY helpful!! I didnt think about that part with inviting kids, but it makes sense to at least give parents the option. I really like the idea of playing it out at a wedding majority of the day/night, then turning it into the big NYE party.
Did you find that the reception prices were higher due to the date? I have not started calling places yet, but I was hoping that because it is a week day and during the winter it might be less than average, but probably just wishful thinking.
Thanks again for all the helpfull info!!!
the places i went to were not really cheaper like i said its the cheapest time of year yes.. but most expensive night since halls have NYE parties. I had a place not even want to budge in prices because they make way more throwing a NYE party. you might be luck though since its during the week.. i think i had a harder time because it landed on a sat.
You have to really try to work a deal and hopefully you will get it. i didnt want it to be a new years eve party only-- so all hats and horns and fun stuff will come out at 11:30 right before. also check if your Dj can do a live Feed of the ball and make sure the Hall has the feed to give the Dj .. thankfully both our hall and DJ had what each other needed to make sure we have a live feed of the ball dropping!

I don't know if anyone mentioned it on here..but Crest Hollow Country Club does a special New Years Eve Wedding if you are interested. I remember my banquet manager bringing it up when we were deciding on a date. It seems like it is becoming more popular as well as the Fourth of July. I think it's a great idea. What better what to spend New Years than celebrating with family and friends. Not to mention I know people make plans on NYE but with enough notice there shouldnt be any problems! HTH!

DO WHATEVER MAKES U AND UR DH HAPPY....
Personally, I would not go... During Holidays/important days for my family, we dont get away from each other. NYE is one of them. Therefore i would not come...

Not to be a downer but i wouldnt do it because its hard for people with certain jobs to get off. Lots of my friends are cops, emts and nurses. And other hosp jobs. And for them it is almost impossible to get off from work thar night/day. My sister is all about the nye wedding and im hopjng she doesn't do it.
Hope this helps take a look at the guest list professions!

Thoughts on a New Years Eve Wedding for 2013?
During the dark days of Prohibition only the most elite, priveleged and savvy individuals could drink the night away in hidden basement bars and clubs. Times have changed and this New Year's Eve Noble is going to bring back those swanky basement bar days to San Francisco. Speakeasy New Years promises to be an event to remember!

The intimate setting at Fish and Farm is perfect for groups who want to celebrate the New Year in style. This down town venue is not only a terrific option for dinner but also a great venue to ring in the New Year with a touch of class. Starting at 10 pm there will be an intimate soiree featuring an open bar party with drinks prepared by the award winning mixology team, a Champagne Toast featuring Taittinger Champagne, and a DJ playing a variety of your favorite tunes as you dance the night away.

New Years Eve is going to be here before you know it and there's one Party in San Francisco that everyone will be talking about.Voted 'Best Event of 2010' (Under 5,000 attendees) by the California Music & Culture Association and the #1 NYE on the West Coast by Huffington Post. We welcome you to take a step back in time to the prosperous Roaring 20's and let your inhibitions loose at San Francisco's newest venue, Per Diem. Tucked away in the Financial District, Per Diem is a 2 level speakeasy that is the perfect setting to enjoy New Year's Eve with your closest friends. Inspired by Gatsby's elaborate parties in the masterpiece by F. Scott Fitzgerald, we will be re-creating the secret 'West Egg' soirees that were paid for with prohibition-fueled bootlegger money.

I love the idea, it seems awesome, like everyone would be down to party! The only issue would be is if you do it at a hall that hosts more than one party at a time, you'll have hundreds of drunk people there for a different event that could possibly crash your night.
I asked one catering hall we visited about NYE weddings, and she said alot of halls will charge more simply because they could make a killing off of having a NYE party instead.

We are having a NYE wedding this year! We really liked the idea of starting the new year as husband and wife. We did get some negative comments but for the most part people are excited to have something fun to do on NYE! I did get some really high quotes from some RH's but I'm so glad that The Woodlands was in our price range!

a NYE wedding would be awesome! The novelty of New Years has faded for me and we're always trying to figure out what to do last minute. I wish someone would have their wedding on NYE so I don't have to make any plans!
