Thoughts on adding time to event ...

Re: Thoughts on adding time to event ...

I think it depends on how late your reception is starting and how late you think your guests will stay out. Typically, the older crowd will leave a little early. You might be better off having an after party at a near by bar or restaurant or if you are blocking rooms at a hotel for OOT guests see if they can keep the bar open for you and whichever guests want to continue partying!

I originally wanted to add an hour to the end of the reception, but FH wants to see if we can get into the club next door for free and then just do a younger crowd after party there. It's owned by Bridgeview.

That's an interesting idea...I was thinking of walking over to one of the bars after the wedding with the younger guests. One of the older people sit outside bars. our wedding ends at 6pm so it's early enough that the bars won't be packed yet.

we extended our CH by a half hour and then planned an after party at the hotel we're staying at.

our reception will be over at 11, and the after party will go until 1:30am. we thought that would be good because anyone who wants to stay up and party can, and those that just want to go to bed can do that too.

i would add it if i could afford it ... as others have said, 4 hours goes by so quickly and i want to have as much time as possible.

note: if you do add an hour, you'll also need to add time to your band or DJ, photographer, and videographer ... so there is an additional cost you may not be considering here.

I went to a wedding where they added an extra 30 minutes to the reception and it was great because we were already having a good time. If my budget allows I would love to add more time to my reception.

We're having an extra hour at the reception. it is a Sunday from 6:30 to 12:30. Our family and friends like to have a good time so we asked for an extra hour and it was thrown in.

Since it is a Sunday I think the timing works out well. I don't want it to be too late because people need to go to work the next day.

Do not extend the time. THis is a waste of money. I have been to many wedding and no matter what day or time you have the wedding people leave early. You then get stuck paying the extra money to extend it and then half the people leave.

We added an extra hour - half hour to CH and half hour to reception. It was absolutely positively worth it. Trust me, the entire day fliesssss by (and our ceremony at the church was at 2:30, and the reception 6-12) and people especially love the extra CH time bc of the 'all you can eat' food!!

We really appreciated it bc we missed about 45 minutes of our CH bc of pictures and to eat privately, and yet we still enjoyed about 45 minutes of it with our guests.

ETA: About 4 people left early, and one was my very pregnant cousin and her hubby who left maybe 30 minutes early. If you have a partying crowd and a great band or DJ, people won't leave early. And no, it was not included in the price so we did pay for it.

the club will be open during your wedding so you can't rent it it out completely and have it just your guests. if you're ok with just going to a club then you could do that. it's only $5 pp to stay at byc for the extra hour... we wished we did it

We are paying for an afterparty in Chateau Briand's beautiful outdoor garden!

CH: 3:30-4:30pm

Reception: 4:30-8:30pm

Afterparty / Viennese: 8:30 - 10:00pm
(hoping to see some fireworks!)

We want the day to last as long as possible!

I really wanted this date because I was hoping to get fireworks too. Didn't choose the date because FMIL is retiring a week before (retirement party, etc.) Sounds like a full day event. GREAT idea!

no added time. I went to a wedding with an extra hour and it was just too much. I guess if you have the ceremony there it's not as bad. But this wedding, was a church wedding so we were up very early to get ready.

im just not sure if its worth the money ... adding an extra hour would be at minimum another $2k! eek! if they did it per head maybe it wouldnt be so bad but then again no one would probably leave! i guess i just need to think it through

do you have to decide now?

Ive been to weddings where the extra hour was added half way through the reception!

We end up having to pay MORE if we decide at the last minute. Its enough as it is! I just know that little by little things are adding up and I am just not sure if its worth the extra money you know?

absolutely... i personally would save the $2000...

at like 10:30 i said to myself... holy **** its 10:30 i cant wait to go home... i still had another 2 hours to my reception at that point...

as much as i love to party... i was tired...

your wedding day is the longest day of your life, emotionally, and physically you are drained....

Since we are getting married at the RH and not seeing each other before we added 1/2 hr to the CH so we take pics and still enjoy the CH. Its costing us $3pp. To me it was well worth it.
