Have you changed your diet any? Maybe you are allergic to something you are eating....

Re: throat closing
I get it all the freaking time. As long as you haven't eaten something you are allergic to, it's safe to say it's a panic or anxiety attack. I go through phases where I get them a lot. DON'T WORRY! It's totally going to be ok. I promise.

have you been eating something you may be allergic too??? if it feels like an allergic reaction, take an antihistamine and drink a lot of water (I am allergic to TONS of things) that usually helps me... Hope everything is ok

Re: throat closing
Do you feel like you have to clear your throat? Sometimes when people have the sensation that there is something stuck in their throat, they may actually have nodules or polyps on their vocal folds. How does your voice sound? Does it sound hoarse, raspy, or breathy?

Re: throat closing
If your voice sounds fine it's probably not what's causing your problem. And it's normal to have to clear your throat so don't worry. I just thought I'd mention it as a possibility, but it doesn't sound like it in your case.

Bride04, are you a speech pathologist by any chance? Because my mother is, and I swear I've heard those words many times from her before!

Hahaha Rachel! My poor FH is tortured by SLP talk! He's actually learned a lot though! He likes to throw around some of the terms from time to time. It's pretty funny!

Re: throat closing
I had this for like 5 weeks! Antoinette I completely know the feeling. Naturally, I assumed that I had throat cancer and rushed to the doctor. He stuck that tube up my nose, down my throat – NOT pleasant to check for tumors, polyps that kind of thing. What it turned out to be is thyroiditis. I have a thyroid condition but it has NOTHING to do with that – anybody can get it. It’s like getting a virus in your thyroid gland which is right at the front of your throat. So that area is really tender and feels like swollen or 'closing' – my feeling was that feeling that you are going to cry. That lump in the throat feeling. It eventually went away with Advil twice a day. My doctor said that it can hang around for up to 4 months.

Re: throat closing
Oh goodness. My doctors think I am a true nut-job. I don’t even care anymore. I tell them constantly that I have self-diagnosed myself on the web and need immediate care and medication. I think they are sure I am out of my tree – they just nod and smile like I am a crazy person. But that throat thing freaked me out. Now don’t get me wrong – try Advil for a week – if it doesn’t help get to the doctor, because there are actually a few things it could be. There’s even arthritis of the voicebox if you can imagine. But if you gently press on the front of your throat (like where somebody would strangle you) and it feels sensitive, I would say it’s what I had. But of course check with your doctor if symptoms persist!
