I love music-and some of it I know people will complain about if I play it at my reception. But I LOOOOVE 80s music and I definately want a block of it played at my reception.
Im thinking of playing it during cocktail hour. I know most people have a singer or they play Sinatra etc etc. but this is what I really want. Plus it gives more time to add in the songs FH and I really want for the dancing part. (i also have to play about an hours worth of music from my country)
Is anyone setting aside a certain type of music to play during their cocktail hour because they cant really fit it into the reception time?

during my cocktail hour im gonna some jazz going on... lol my DAD loves jazz and he asked if that could be done and i said NOOO problem lol
i am deff gonna be pumping 80 and 90's music during my reception

FH and I both love early 90s freestyle and we dont really care if people dont like it - we're playing it during the reception.
I think you should definitely do the 80s music at your cocktail hour if you cant fit it into the reception. Why not, it's your day!

Donna let me start by saying you can play the 80's when ever you want!!!! My cousin got married Jan of 07 and played 80's the whole time and the floor was packed and except for when the food came out, . I am playing alot 80 and of course music for now, everyone will dance. I know I'll be on the dance floor ALL night!!

We are playing Halloween music like Thriller, Monster Mash....etc at cocktail hour but for our reception we are playing ALL kinds of music... play what you want...you only get married once so please yourselves!

Yes! FH loves freestyle! We have to play that too! I am a stickler when it comes to music-I really dont want the dj to think he can put on whatever he wants.
I love crossfade-I dont have a chance in hell to play it though...its not even hard, its just that I know guests will be b*tching about it!

speaking of thriller, I was just listening to some michael jackson songs last night(wow the exciting life i live!) I'm getting the 25th anniv. collection!!!!!!

That sounds so adorable! But how in the world did you get them to be coordinated and dance? Jeez - I'm worried about how I'm going to get my middle school kids to all do the same steps for our play!

FH is a big 80's fan as well so we asked our DJ [for the eparty] to create a 5-6 min montage of a bunch of 80's rock songs. I didn't want to play all the songs the whole way through cause they are not exactly dancing music but he wanted it so this was our compromise. I think you should include this especially if it's something you like.

practice every day.....its so adorbale ....we put on like a 10 minute show..singing/dancing....and then they wear caps and gowns and graduate to kindergarten
its such a big hit!

Very cute Colleen, yes you can get young kids to any kind of dance,lol. If I can get my 2-3 yrs olds to do the chicken dance you can do anything.
