Are a lot of you girls doing this? I'm debating on whether to do it or not because the last 3 weddings that I went to didn't do this. And I'm leaning towards not doing it at my wedding because there's not really any single friends left to go up there to catch them. And the last wedding that I was at that they did do it - the best man (in his 30's) caught the garter and the 13 year old junior bridesmaid caught the bouquet - soooo awkward!! So I'm thinking I'm not going to do it - I'm just a little torn cause it is tradition and I just always assumed that I would do it. Just curious.

Re: Throwing Bouquet and Garter
We decided not to do it, as I was never a big fan of that tradition. Plus the fact that most of our friends are married. I would have to hand the bouquet to my 1 single friend.

We're not doing either. I hate when people tell me 'your guests will expect it!' Nothing against those that choose to do it, but I don't like it so that's that!

Re: Throwing Bouquet and Garter
in my opinion, if you're going to have kids at your wedding, this isnt a good thing. i went to a weddign a few months ago, and a 9 year old girl caught the flowers. then when the guy tossed the garter, none of the men wanted to catch it. so it fell on the floor and everyone just looked at it. then one guy walked over to it, it seemed like he was gonna pick it up... but he kicked it. it was very awkward and the bride got mad. she stormed on the floor, picked it up... and the DJ just moved on.
to avoid stuff like this... we are not doing it at ours. we have doing an aniversary dance instead

Re: Throwing Bouquet and Garter
We were not going to do it because we didn't want to single out anyone and fh wasn't too comfortable doing the garter toss with my mom there but then to HIS surprise not mine(cause i know the kind of freak my mom is LOL), my mother called him 'wack' and told him to stop being so 'lame'. She says ' you've already been up there hence the four year child running around your house'
So...if we do decide to do it, I said I would have a bunch of single roses each tied with a ribbon and toss them all so they will scatter. That way each lady will get a single rose. Then which ever guy catches the garter, he will stand or sit and the ladies will surround him and have a pic taken and that's it. There will be no dances or anything like that. But i do think it wil make a cute pic.

I am going to do it. The last couple of wedding I have been to haven't done it but I personally love the tradition.

NOT DOING IT! i know i have answered this before but this is why.... 1...none of my friends EVEr wanna get up...single or not... 2...i have been to more than one wedding where its been a horribly uncomfortable experience because of immature rude men! if a not so hot chick catches it...no guys get up...I dont want to put anyone in an awkward situation
We are not doing it...I thought it would be fun, but this was the one thing FH was completely against...and his points were the same as JJC! Couldn't really argue that!
ITA w/you both! Tradition or not, I feel like it's supposed to be a classy & elegant event. And there's nothing classy or elegant about some girl having her skirt hiked up while a drunk guy uses his teeth to put a garter practically in her crotch infront of a crowd including your 93 year old grandma Rose. Can you say gross?

i didn't want to do it, but was talked into by everyone (my parents, the flortist, the dh). a lot of our friends are single so i guess it will work. i am going to plan with my moh some type of football play to make sure she catches it lol. who knows? the best part is FH picked 'another one bites the dust for the garter toss' i think i may use beyonce's new song 'single ladies' it is quite appropriate. we will see if i regret it.
haha, that song is perfect

Re: Throwing Bouquet and Garter
I originally was NOT going to do them... but then soo many family members were giving me the dissappointed looks... LOL. So, I gave in. None the less, I already have some married couples saying they will get up there as well just to make it more fun. Oh well.. I don't mind doing it either way.

Re: Throwing Bouquet and Garter
i dont think i am doing the bok toss or the garter either. not really sure about the garter yet, but about the bok definately not! i am really for the whole tradition weddings but that is something i never cared for and in a wedding didnt like cause i have been to weddings where that cousins conflicts and fights with couples and i dont want that happening on my wedding, plus i dont think there is anything special about a girl catching the bok and getting a guy to go under her dress in front of 200 people, who knows who will catch that thing.. so i have decided, i like the wedding ann dance better and i am definately doing that! the person who is left on the dance floor that is married the longest will get the BOK (that wife) and i honestly think this is the new tradition now and soo much nicer and wedding related.. its special i think and you could make it fun! :) so this is what i am doing.. but about the fh taking my garter out, i dunno yet.. prolly not having this done either!

Were not doing that. I'm saving my garter for my first born,
and the bo-k we are going to give to the couple married the longest and then have them share a dance with us for luck:)

Re: Throwing Bouquet and Garter
yeah the couple who has been married the longest will also share a dance with us on the dance floor for good luck! i think this will mean more and especially for a wedding it goes well together.. one question though, what do you mean by saving your garter for your first born!? if you dont mind me asking?? ;)

Re: Throwing Bouquet and Garter
We are not doing either one. I kinda feel like the bok toss is a little bit degrading - especially since I am an older bride. I stopped going up there when I was in my early 20's - I don't want anyone at my wedding to feel pressured because they are still single.
Plus, neither one of us really has any single friends any more. The ones that are have already been married and are now divorced.
