Throwing Bouquet and Garter

Original post by llupario14

Are a lot of you girls doing this? I'm debating on whether to do it or not because the last 3 weddings that I went to didn't do this. And I'm leaning towards not doing it at my wedding because there's not really any single friends left to go up there to catch them. And the last wedding that I was at that they did do it - the best man (in his 30's) caught the garter and the 13 year old junior bridesmaid caught the bouquet - soooo awkward!! So I'm thinking I'm not going to do it - I'm just a little torn cause it is tradition and I just always assumed that I would do it. Just curious.

We're probably going to do both. A lot of our guests will be older, so there probably won't be too much dancing going on anyways, so it won't eat up too much time. There's enough younger girls to do the boq toss, and the garter, while embarassing...my father pulled out a ginormous pair of red panties from up his sleeve at my parent's wedding, so naturally we'll have to top this somehow!

I doubt it. I literally have like two single friends.

We are doing an anniversary dance..where all the married couples get on the dance floor and then they ask for the people who are married 5 years or less to leave and so on until the longest married couple is left. The woman then gets the bouquet...

i didn't want to do it, but was talked into by everyone (my parents, the flortist, the dh). a lot of our friends are single so i guess it will work. i am going to plan with my moh some type of football play to make sure she catches it lol. who knows? the best part is FH picked 'another one bites the dust for the garter toss' i think i may use beyonce's new song 'single ladies' it is quite appropriate. we will see if i regret it.

I guess i didn't really think about it. I like the idea of having all adies go up although alot of my family are old fashioned

FH has no interest in doing this, and I'm not too into it, so I guess we aren't!

We are doing both! We are the first of FH friends to get married and the second out of my friends so it will be fun. We also have a few friends that are close to getting engaged so it could be fun for them. Plus FH is quite the joker so he's looking forward to doing something funny for the garter!

i didn't want to do it, but FH does..he said it's tradition! wth?! he's more traditional than i am when it comes to these things haha, whats funny though he's normally so shy, so i just had to point out to him he would have to go under my dress in front of his MOTHER and retrieve the garter with his teeth! ...he was ok with it, darn!

Re: Throwing Bouquet and Garter

When I was single in 2004 every wedding I went to (which was a lot) had a bouquet toss which I was hiding from. In 2007 when I was desperate to get engaged none of them did. It made me sad and seemed like something was missing. I am all about traditions, so we are doing the Bouquet Toss. The Garter we weren't sure about but we have a funny bunch of single guys that would probably make it really fun. So we're probably going to do it.

I was thinking about this the other day. I think FH is too shy to do the garter thing.

Re: Throwing Bouquet and Garter

At my sister's my dad turned away and didn't look all that happy when BIL climbed under her dress. But everyone else had fun with it. When they were about to do the part where the guy puts the garter on the girl who caught the bo-k, they actually blind folded the Best Man (who caught the garter) and then switched out my cousin (who was like 17 at the time) and put my aunt's mom in her place. It was very funny.
