Throwing the garter and the bouquet
We are not sure if we want to do this custom because we are in our early 30's and not many of our friends are single. And the ones that are, we are afraid they will be embarassed. We were thinking, either not do the garter and bouquet toss or ask all the women single or not as well as all the guys single or not to get out on the floor for this tradition. Opinions???

Re: Throwing the garter and the bouquet
We are not doing the throwing of the garter and bouquet. When my BF got married she did the Anniversary dance. All married couples are asked to dance and then they count up the number of years everyone is married and the couple who is left gets the garter and the bouquet. We are not doing that either. When we get married my in-laws will be married 40 years, so we are going to ask them to dance to their wedding song and ask my parents to dance to their wedding song and then give my father and FIL each a garter and my mother and MIL each a smaller version of a my bouquet. I thought this was different than the norm.

Re: Throwing the garter and the bouquet
My husband too the garter off me, then we had the Anniversary Dance. My aunt/uncle were the longest married couple, then I gave my bouquet to my aunt, and my uncle got the garter. Then my uncle had to put the garter on my aunt. Everyone LOVED IT!!!!

Re: Throwing the garter and the bouquet
We didn't do the bouquet/garter thing either for the same reasons -- hardly any single people left. We did the Anniversary Dance also to 'Through the Years' by Kenny Rogers. There were 6 couples at the end married over 50 years and the winner was my father's cousins, married 58 years the week after my wedding!!!!
Everyone really got into it and enjoyed it, especially since there were so many couples left at the end!!! I handed them the throwaway bouquet and they loved it!

I love the Anniversary dance but I have the opposite problem - not enough married couples! So Im doing the bouquet toss but definitely NOT the garter.

I wasn't going to do it as i thought my single friends woudl be embarrassed but then I had a couple of people ask me why not and that they woudl be dissapointed if i didn't do it... so i am.

Re: Throwing the garter and the bouquet
We are not doing the garter/bouquet either, but we are doing the anniversary dance. I have never been to a wedding yet where someone did the anniv. dance, so I hope it will be something new for the guests as well, something diffeent.

We are doing the anniversary dance also and I like that the winner has to put the garter on his wife....hehehe I really think that is great!

Re: Throwing the garter and the bouquet
The anniversay dance (from my experience) is when the DJ has all the married couples dancing on the floor and keeps eliminating the ones who are married the least number of years until the couple married the longest is left on the floor. I think that's it?!

Re: Throwing the garter and the bouquet
No bouqet toss or garter. Not too many singles, and the ones that are are in their 30's and would kill me, or are young cousins who will fight over it. I stopped getting up for the toss when I hit 26 or so, I was just tired of doing it. We will probably do the anniversary dance.

Re: Throwing the garter and the bouquet
I was in the same boat...not many single friends (and I HATED this part of weddings)also my fear was that DH's 13 year-old niece would catch the bouquet and some guy would put a garter on her? NO WAY!!
We did the anniversary dance and it turned out great we had 3 or 4 couples married over 50 years and my mom's neighbors (who I grew up next door too) won...and she was crying...she didn't expect it...then the husband said to DH...the first 50 years are the hardest...it was just so cute and sweet...
