Thursday Night Summer Weddings

Thursday Night Summer Weddings

Are they a do or don't? This was suggested to me from vendors and family members alike to get a nice price at pretty places!

Would you attend a Thursday evening summer wedding?

Re: Thursday Night Summer Weddings

I originally was strongly considering this, because Flowerfield has a good deal on it....

I would attend, but my FH and I are both teachers. I asked around with my family and friends who aren't, and most of them felt very strongly against it....so we went with a winter date instead to save money. I got a great deal, and am very excited for my February date (Sat. before President's Day)...just saying a prayer that the weather is as nice as it was when we booked it this past February

Good luck! I would recommend asking a few close family members and friends (who aren't teachers)!

We are doing a Thursday night in July next year. We have a lot of teachers and those who are self employed so it was easier for them to come. For those who are not they all said they would rather a Thursday night over a Sunday night. It is easier to muddle through one day rather than a whole week. Plus they had at least a year to know about it and decide if they want to take off. They could come to the wedding and still have their weekend to themselves... I say its a must and they are becoming very popular

I think I would definitely go to a thurs night wedding! especially in the summer! I wouldn't mind taking friday off at all. Also, it's definitely do-able to stay up late thursday and get through a Friday a work since fridays are quite laid back. We opted for a sunday twilight 4-9pm so ppl could still have time to get home and go to work...i figured ppl will take Monday off if they need too! who wouldn't want a 3 day weekend?

Of course I would attend.

I have to say though, I wouldn't drink as much as if it was on the weekend though. Maybe not at all even because I'd have work in the morning.

But I think anyone in the bridal party/your family would probably just take off that Friday from work or whatever - those are the most important people (imo) anyway.

I am having a Thursday night wedding for just that reason. It was just impossible to save for the wedding, a honeymoon & a house. So this way we can still have the place & vendors that we want too. Our whole wedding total was cut in half by doing this. At first I was going to sacrifice the month..butI didn't want the dead of winter..I love pink & don't want to be cold haha..soo FH & I decided we go to planty of Sunday night weddings & have to be up the next morning so this was the way it worked best for us. I do get alot of comments from people who aren't even invited but everyone who knows & loves us will be there.

im getting married on a thursday July 1st and i asked much of my family and friends before i booked. i have a lot of ppl who have flexible jobs or are teachers so everyone was pro thursday. like another poster said, now i can have the RH and vendors that i really want because its more affordable. i would def. check with your friends and fam before booking.

i always say that your close friends and family will be there no matter what... so if a thursday night is more affordable then go for it! there will always people that will have something negative to say but do what makes you happy!

I would go if it was a close friend, but not otherwise. I am not a teacher and a lot of my friends aren't (and NONE of my family are), so I wouldn't assume that Thursday nights work for everyone just because it's summer. But like I said - if it was someone I was really close to, I'd take the Friday off and go!

i would go....but i would have work the next day so i would take it easy. People will go no matter what day i think to be there for you, its more a matter of more people would probably take it easy, not really drink so it may be more low key.

I only have a few friends that are teachers so a Thursday night wedding would be difficult for me to have. Also, I might not attend a Thursday night wedding and traveling from the city to Long Island for a 6 pm reception would be hard in rush hour traffic.

But you have to do whats best for you.

I'm doing it next August. The price is SO much lower, almost as long as the offseason. Also, many of the guests are teachers or graduate students who are off in the summer anyways. If people want to complain then let them pay the higher price of a weekend wedding!

No matter what day of the week a wedding is I would go to support my family or friend. Of course, I would prefer a weekend so I didn't have to use a vacation day the day after to nurse my hangover. But definitely do want works best for you, your family and friends will be there.

Other things to think of:

Of course, I would attend the wedding of someone close to me no matter when it was. However, as some said, for those who aren't that close, they may not...

I would also definitely take it easy...unless I was in the bridal party, I most likely wouldn't take off work the next day, because of today's economic climate

On that note, you need to consider where people are coming from, when they work until, and when they will arrive....can they afford to leave work early/take off Thursday AND take off Friday?

Your LOCATION:

Flowerfield has the atrium, which is where I'm having my ceremony.... (it gives you the feel of an outdoor wedding without the risk of inclement weather) so since the ceremony and reception are in the same place, that simplifies things a bit

I was a bit disappointed when my family told me that they thought that some people might think a Thursday night was inconsiderate towards my guests...but the more I thought about it, the more sense it made

Again, it really depends on your personal situation...you need to think about what sort of guests you have, what sorts of jobs/lifestyles they have, where they are located, their personality types, your venue, etc... Of course, it's your day...but as much as I know it's my wedding, I'd like to keep it as pleasant/stress-free as I can for other people, too and reduce any possibility of negative vibes, etc.

You'll figure out what works best for you if you haven't yet!

Re: Thursday Night Summer Weddings

We booked our wedding for a Thursday night because the price per person was something we could not resist. Our thursday wedding works out pretty cool because its the thursday before labor day. Most people take off from work or are already off that friday so it worked out pretty good. We plan on having a Labor Day Barbeque that saturday for our out of town guests so our date is working out GREAT!!!

Re: Thursday Night Summer Weddings

We are actuallly having ours on a Thursday next August. We discussed it with our parents first and they were fine with it. Like someone else said, those who are going to come, will still come, even though it is a Thursday. We got a great deal on our RH and on the Photographer b/c it's a Thursday night (i'm paying 1,000 less for the same package, same photographer as my friend who is getting married on a Saturday.) Also, we decieded on a Thursday rather than a Sunday because then people only have 1 day of work to get through, not an entire week if they didn't take off. Almost every vendor I have spoken to has said that Thursday is the new Friday. Good luck!!!

I think you should take into account that it will effect the number of yes's your get. Those who you are closest to will come regardless.
