I prob. wouldn't do it...unless you know people are really willing to go to work hungover or take off.

Re: thursday reception
I know some girls say that it's great because you get to take the day off Friday, but I don't like it... unless Friday is a holiday.
I wouldn't like writing the word 'Thursday' on my invitation.
I think people think 'cheap way out' when they see Thursday (if I'm being honest with you).
I think people won't go because it's inconvenient.
I think you won't get a lot of people at the church - or wherever the ceremony is - because people won't take Thursday AND Friday off.
That's just my opinion... I BRIEFLY considered it myself, but that quickly flew out the window.

Re: thursday reception
when i was researching, i didnt want a thursday or a sunday, because i felt like my guests wouldnt wanna have as much fun with work and other resposnibilities...i ended up booking a sunday because my hall had no other dates in sep and i wanted that..didnt mind too much at first, until i had to travel to my friends wedding at Tribeca in NYC a few sundays ago, and then dreaded going to work the next day... it really depends on your party and your financial situation..some people are fine with sundays..im alil upset i didnt get to have a friday though.. if you have alot of young friends who will wanna drink and stay out late, id say try to go with a friday or saturday...if that kinda party isnt for you and u wanna keep it casual, i see nothing wrong with a thurs or sunday

Re: thursday reception
This is a tough one. I would personally never have a Thursday night reception because I feel it is asking a lot of people. However, the people that truly care about you will come to your wedding regardless of the day. It is YOUR wedding and if you have a dream place that you can't afford to have any other night then go for it. Just expect more no responses than a weekend wedding. Some people may not be able to take off work, etc. Personally, I would rather have my wedding on a Saturday night at a cheaper RH. It was really important to me that my wedding be on a Saturday night. But it is your wedding and the people that you really want there, will be there regardless. Hope this helps and good luck.

at least for a Sunday, though, you can work with the time. My wedding will start at 4:30 and be over by 10, so not everyone will be getting home at an ungodly hour. A Thursday may mean your guests had work THAT day AND the next day!

I agree - my wedding starts at 3:30, is over by 11pm, and very few oot guests. and FH is a teacher, so alot of his friends are teachers, and they are off in the summer, so Sunday wasnt a problem for us.
If friday is a holiday, than you can get away with it. Id be annoyed if I had to go to a Thursday wedding and work that day and the next day.

I think it's a great option We had a Thursday night wedding
It was Thursday or Sunday at 11 a.m. which was the last open date available the weekend we wanted. DH refused to have a Sunday afternoon wedding.
It works best if you have lots of OOT guests since they can make a mini vacation out of it. My family and friends were 75% from OOT and DH's guests were about 50% from OOT.
Our ceremony was at 6 p.m. and only one guest missed the ceremony since he got stuck in traffic on the drive from OOT. The people that want to attend your wedding will be there and if anyone thinks it's inconvenient or is annoyed by your Thursday date - then they probably just won't come. No big deal. We had an after party at the hotel and guests stayed with us until like 2 a.m.
So many people have different work schedules these days (not M-F, 9-5) that a Thursday may be better for a lot of people. My dad in particular wanted Thursday over Sunday since he works weekends.
My suggestion is poll the people you absolutely want to attend and go with that date.

Re: thursday reception
We picked a thrusday for lots of reasons but mostly because we fell in love without RH and couldnt make the minimum for a fri-sun ( 200p !) we gave our guests lots of notice (2 years or so in most cases) and I kwno that the people who want to be there will be.

Re: thursday reception
You can absolutely have a thursday wedding, if you have alot of OOT guests.
Just be prepared for no shows to a ceremony that's held during work hours. And don't be disappointed if some people have to leave early to prepare for work on Friday.
Most guests will not tell you that it's an inconvenience to them 'cus they are nice about it.
But it is an inconvenience. I was invited to a wedding on a thursday night and couldn't attend 'cus there's no way i was able to drive during rush hour to get there on time. It was only 30 an hour away but it's 2 hours during rush hour.
Even for a friday 6pm ceremony to a cousin's wedding I was late 'cus I didnt have any vacation time off and coudln't leave early. :(

Re: thursday reception
Thursday weddings are like destination weddings. The people that really want to be there will make sure that they are by your side. However, with that said, weekday schedules can be a bit unforgiving at times, so I agree with, poll the people who's presence means the most to you. If you decide to go forward with a Thursday, you can always send out STD's way in advance so that your guest can plan accordingly.
We considered Thursdays at first but realized that it had to do more with the frustration of trying to find a RH than anything else. We took a step back and one week later found a place that we loved and that we could afford.
Good Luck!

I'm having a Thursday night wedding... After much contiplating and asking ALL of our friends and family, I received ALL Positive feedback.... Our friends said they wouldn't miss it for the world, and my family that isn't retired are happy to take a day off. They all thought I was nuts to ask such a question, b/c I should just know that they would be there.... Which did make me feel ALOT better.....
BUT... I'm also getting married right before Veteran's Day.. Saturday is Veteran's Day, Friday the day before is observed for Veteran's Day.. Sooooo... Many people have off on Friday anyway, which works out great!!!!
I have to admit it though, I'm a police officer and I don't have steady days off... So me picking Thursday was also more conveinient for me and the people I work with b/c it's easier to get off for a Thursday night than a Friday night.
Regardless of all of the above though, including being able to negotiate a little more and save some money..
If your Friends and Family want to be there... They will!!!!
Good luck with your decision... There are more Thursday brides than you think....

I agree, I wouldn't have a Thursday wedding, but that is my preference. I would rather have it at a less expensive place on a Friday or Saturday than to inconvenience my guests.
But that is just me.

Re: thursday reception
If I was invited to a thursday wedding and I'm close to the bride/groom... I'll definitely attend. Probably take friday off... if I can't take friday off, I'll probably leave a bit early.
The ppl that want to be there will find a way, you have to be prepared for guests leaving early and a larger number of ppl rsvping no than a weekend date.
My friend is getting married next year and she's planning for a Monday wedding. I'm in the bridal party so I plan on taking Monday and Tuesday off. A little inconvenient but not a big deal.

Re: thursday reception
I don't see anything wrong with a Thursday Reception. It is starting to become a popular night for a wedding. My FH and I are definitely considering a Thursday night reception. The next day will be a holiday. (4th of July) It's $30 cheaper per plate than Fri; $55 cheaper than Saturday.JMO

Re: thursday reception
my wedding is a thursday night.
as far as a cheap way out.... i dont take offense...
but sadly since we are paying for everything..nothing in our eyes is cheap.
the reason we chose thursday is less minimums, affordability.... and... it was bt that and sunday and alot of people would have to go to work anyway on a monday so its sorta the same as a thursday.
we told everyone the minute we booked though that it was going to be a thursday so everyone has had a year notice

Re: thursday reception
You should do whatever works for you and FH
but giving you my honest opinion. . . If a really close friend or family member got married on a Thursday I would definitely attend and just suck it up and suffer the next day, but i would probably limit my drinking. . .
if a coworker or acquaintance had a Thursday reception I would probably NOT attend. . .
JMHO!

As a matter of fact - Thursday weddings are very trendy and in - don't let anyone EVER tell you that it screams 'cheap' - that is not fair to people who have Thursday weddings - people do them for all sorts of reasons, and yes, if it is cheaper, no one else should ever judge - weddings are very expensive and no one should ever be critiquing how much someone else is paying for their wedding... ESPECIALLY when its not always cheaper anyway....
I say go for it - like everyone said - the people that matter will be there!

Re: thursday reception
In all honesty, if given the choice I would not pick Thursday . I think that you should prepare yourself for alot of no responses, becasue alot of people will not want to take off work early on Thursday and have to go to work hung over if they cannot take off on Friday.
But in the end do what you and your FH want, and as others have said those who want to be there will be.
