Just curious b/c I had such a conversation with someone recently...
What do you guys think is the shortest feasible amount of time to plan a wedding and still make it what you want it to be - or at least within reason and not cheesy. Some people feel 6 months is adequate, others at least 1 year and still others need several years. Just curious as to what the shortest timeframe people think is (without it being just a thrown together at the last minute thing) for something that still comes together nicely... I'm not focusing on money here - I'm suggesting a couple who have some money saved and don't need years to put the money together, yet also need to stay within a certain budget of maybe $15k-$18k or so, hence sky's not the limit, but it's not like a percentage of every single paycheck for at least 12 months has to go the the wedding either... I've never done a poll before so I thought I'd throw it in...
Thoughts... and why?

Re: Time???
My sister did her wedding in 6 months. I am doing mine in 10 but DEFINITELY could have done it in less. We both had/have winter weddings. Many more openings at halls/temples then. Many of the vendors are so grateful to be booking a winter date that the minimums are lower as are the prices per plate.

Re: Time???
I think a year gives you a good window. At least 9 mos. Maybe the time it takes is falsely inflated because everyone books so early, but especially if you have a budget in mind or specil needs I think the more time the better. We're considering starting to plan our wedding again for 2006 after stopping planning for a yuear in anticipation of postponing and I'm worried about planning a wedding in 15 mos.

Re: Time???
I think it definately depends on the couple. I think 6 months is adequate to plan an elegant and classy wedding. I do feel there's definately more stress involved if you plan it in a short period of time. I'm doing mine in 9 months (almost to the day). We got engaged 2/12/05 and will be getting married 11/13/05.
I think for us too, we're both older (I'm almost 35 and he's 40), we're both established in our careers and didn't see the need for a long engagement.

Re: Time???
My engagement will be 16 months. WAY TOO LONG if you ask me!!! I had way too much time to decide about things and as a result I think I spent more money on the little extras. if I had less time, I wouldn't have found or thought of half the things I am doing. I think 9-12 months is a good time frame. 6 if you really know exactly waht you want/or if you are not into the small details/or if you do not work full time!!

Re: Time???
My mom says anything can be done for a price!
And maybe for less, if you find a hall that needs to book the date.

Re: Time???
My Best friend got married in 9 wks. She had a beautiful wedding. It is good in the aspect you don't make yourself crazy interviewing sooo many vendors.

Re: Time???
I guess it just depends on how organized and how focused you are. One of the managers at my job did it in a little over six months. But she knew what she wanted. I'm a mess- I'm glad I left myself plenty of time.

Re: Time???
mine will be 10 and 1/2 months from my engagement, i think a PERFECT amount of time, if it was a little less, i would have been okay. i wouldn't go much less than 8-9 months though.

Re: Time???
i had almost the whole wedding planned in the first 3 months of our engagement.
the problem with a short engagement is you will probably not get your first choice vendors. if you're okay with that, then you can plan a nice wedding in just a few months.

I agree that 3 months is enough time to plan a wedding. But it's true that you may not be able to get the vendors you may want. However, if that's not of importance, then by all means plan it in 3 months. I booked all my vendors within 1 month of deciding the date. It's only now 2 months before that I'm getting busy with wedding details again. So I guess if you add it up, it takes 3 months all in all. And, I am a perfectionist, so I just didn't pick whatever....I took the time to look and research what I wanted.
Good Luck!

Re: Time???
It depends on how flexible you are and how much you want to spend and what date you want. The only thing I can say is that I had a heck of a time finding vendors a year before hand...but I have limits on what I want to spend on some things. It really depends. Our best man is planning his wedding in 6 months, but it's a destination wedding in Antigua. I think it also depends on how much running around and planning you really want to do at one time and how fast you want to part w/ $$ or if you want to pay things off over time.
