Ok I did things a little backwards. I booked the RH first before the church. I am getting married at 3:30 in the church because they had nothing later and my cocktail hr doesn't start till 7:30. Is that to much time between them. I tried to change my RH for 7:00 to make it a little better but they have another cocktail hr at 6:30 so I can't. I might only have about a handfull of people that will be out of towners. Please I need advice.

Re: Time between Ceremony and RH
I have the same gap between Church and RH - my ceremony is at 2 and the cocktail doesn't start til 6. I think it's great because we'll have enough time to take our pics without being rushed.

This time gap is pretty common - as you can see from the posts above. If you feel bad, you can always put a card together listing some things people can do with the time in between and hand it out at the church, or include it with the invitation. I've seen this done in the OOT guest bags at the hotel, but I don't see why it couldn't be done another way. You could also see if any family in the area would be willing to invite guests back to their house to pass some time. I have this same gap (3 and 7), and my mom is opening her house to people, but I think most of the guests will just go to the hotel to clean up and relax.
Otherwise, people will find ways to entertain themselves. My dad gets all worked up when I mention putting lists together, etc ... because he's always had to fend for himself - why do I have to do all this work.

You can't not have a gap in between because you need time for all your pictures. My church is at 2:30 and my cocktail hour starts at 6:00.
Our photographer said he's taking all the family pictures at church, so by the time we have the full Catholic Mass, receiving line and pictures we won't be leaving church until 4:00ish....that gives us 2 hours to take pictures.
We are having a huge Irish wedding and there are two bars across the street from church, so guess where my guests will be hanging out??? We're having buses take everyone from the church in Queens to Nassau County and they will be leaving at 5pm so really our guests only have 1 hour to wait around and drink in between.
So, basically.....don't worry about having a gap....everyone has one and all your guests are going to expect it.

You have a nice chunk of time to take pictures, have you considered looking into taking pictures at Old Westbury Gardens?
i agree-- it'll go by faster than you think-- and then you won't be rushing at all which is nice. and you have plenty of time to take great pics!! the out of towners can go back to the hotel in the mean time-- so they can wear more casual clothes to the church, go back and relax, change into dressy and get ready for the reception. if you want, you can arrange to have the hotel's shuttle (or an outside service) there for them. i think that will work out nice.
ETA: just to make you feel a little better-- my church is at 2:15 and my CH starts at 6:30
