Time for more LIRR stories

Kind of low scale compared to other days..

The guy next to me doesn't believe in washing his clothes...DUDE! YOU STINK!

The girl across the train car has her ear buds in and I can hear that she's listening to Don't Stop Til You Get Enough-Michael Jackson. Turn it down B!tch you may not need a hearing aid in 5 years.

Why doesn't the guy next to her that's giving her dirty looks say something. If I were next to her, I would. I almost did across the train!

Re: Time for more LIRR stories

I only rode the LIRR for those few days in december with we had the Subway strike. It was a mad house at Penn Station.

Re: Time for more LIRR stories

Can I share?

The guy on the train who whistles. We've all heard this, though I think the whistlers are rare. I had one next to me the other night. I looked at him and said, 'Excuse me, could you stop doing that?'
His reply, 'Doing what?'

Re: Time for more LIRR stories

Well, even though I'm a Jersey girl now, I was a LIRR girl for much longer. My biggest pet peeve was the ticket taker who, when taking/checking EACH and EVERY individual ticket, would say:

'Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.....

I know a lot worse used to happen on these trains, but this was one of my main annoyances. Oh and the fact that twice I asked the conductor 'what car is this?' and he'd said 'fourth' but of course it was fifth and I missed my stop and had to go to the next one because only the first 4 cars platform at my stop.

Oh man! That's unbelievable.

I WILL say that all the riders are not bad though. I had mailed all of my wedding invitations, but one came back because of a wrong address. I did up a new one and took it into work with me because I wanted to mail it from work and I lost it on the Jamaica Station platform!!!! I didn't realize it until the train had pulled out of the station. But 3 days later, the recipients got that invitation.

It MUST have been a fellow LIW Bride!

Re: Time for more LIRR stories

My mom and I were left on the train while my 15 year old sister and 6 year old daughter were already on the platform ! The stupid door almost took my arm off when I tried to force it open. My sister was yelling to the conductor along with some stranger guy but he didn't pay attention. When we got off at the next stop some woman offered to give us a ride back. She saw the whole thing. Thank goodness for cell phones, my sister and I were talking to each other the whole time. It was the end to a perfect day in the city, walking around in times square, seeing the Christmas show at Radio City . . . .

Now I make sure we are standing right next to the doors at least 2 stops ahead of where we need to get off ! ! !

OVERHEARD ON METRO NORTH

Conductor #1: I have to head back to check out a problem.
Conductor #2: What's the problem?
Conductor #1: Apparently some guy is masturbating in his seat.
Conductor #3: Could you two please switch to another channel?

Re: Time for more LIRR stories

Boy, I DO NOT miss LIRR. The worst was the people who clipped their fingernails on the train. That really grossed me out.

Then one time in the am rush hour I was waiting my turn to get off when the doors closed with about 10 of us still in the car. They opened the doors again for a few seconds and most people got out except me & one other woman. We pressed that 'secret white button' on the roof and they finally realized that we were still on the train. We heard the conductor announce 'I think someone's still on the train.' Don't they check these things? We almost ended up in the yard.

Re: Time for more LIRR stories

when i used to take the train in the AM rush hour (had my hours switched to 2-9 now) it always seemed i was stuck on a car that had a snorer on it.....

a few months ago i was on with FH on a weekend or something, we were going out with friends. there was this AMAZING (sarcasm) mother who had to be like 18 with 3 kids. she was yelling at the oldest to 'sit his azz down, b/c he was setting a bad example'. the whole ride she constantly yelled at him and i just felt bad for the kid and at one point said she was going to slap him and raised her hand.

the whole train was like

Re: Time for more LIRR stories

I am a former LIRR commuter but I have lots of stories! There was a regular fingernail clipper...totally gross. Once I saw a shouting match break out between and older man and a younger girl. She was talking on a cell phone...loudly and he was trying to nap. It got really ugly.

Re: Time for more LIRR stories

ooh I have a good one. My friend and I were on the train and these two girls got on and were talking really loudly. Eventually one says something about being a lesbian and my friend noticed her shirt said that she was a lesbian. I tranferred to my next train and my friend said they started talking about umm how do I put this, lesbian sex. She called her mom on her cell and her mom was cracking up listening to them talking.
