Timeshare Honeymoon
FMIL offered us a timeshare for our honeymoon. Has anyone heard of this or knows a couple who did this for their honeymoon? The drawback to this is not being able to go where we want to go. I know that sounds selfish and believe me we're very grateful for the offer, but this is our ONLY honeymoon and I want it to be someplace special. I checked RCI.com and found some resorts that we were looking at available for timeshare. What's the difference between the timeshare and just booking an all-inclusive vacation? I'm so confused...

Timeshare Honeymoon
We are using a timeshare for our honeymoon to Aruba. You should have different choices of places to pick though so you shouldn't be limited in where you can go. Timeshares usually aren't inclusive of food/drink but I have seen where you can pay a little extra to have that. We usually choose not to have the all inclusive because we like to be able to pick and choose where we eat. That being said, I am a big fan of timeshares.

Timeshare Honeymoon
We're using my FFIL's timeshare. His is through Marriott and based out of vegas but we were able to pay a small fee (about $100) to go anywhere in the world that was available. We wanted to do Hawaii or Aruba, we called every day for about a month and a room in Hawaii finally opened up :) We've used it once before for Hawaii and it was awesome, we stayed at 5 star resort for basically free. One drawback is room service (cleaning) is not included because you are technically an 'owner' of the room not a 'guest' you can usually pay per day though. For us, this time around I think it was about $25 a day.I def think it's worth it.

Timeshare Honeymoon
My mom gave me the option with RCI. I have exchanged before. You can asked to get your room cleaned everyday if you want to. They shouldn't know if you are a owner or not. I don't know if this still happens but the owner can request that you don't get the sale tour (so annoying). in the past my dad would just call the resort and tell them. On rci there are all inclusive you have to pay a fee.@db276952 which resort in Hawaii did you get? Everything I see look dated.

Timeshare Honeymoon
So in my head I think a timeshare is a suite that may or may not be in a resort, with apartment-like features. Is that a myth?

Timeshare Honeymoon
I have exchanged with RCI before and actually going on a trip with them this weekend! I was informed at some places you can add the all-inclusive part on. That is what we are most likely going to do.

Timeshare Honeymoon
My aunt gave us a week of timeshare and we are going to Barbados, the place we are going isnt a 5 star resort but Im sure it will be really nice and well make the most of it. Well have to do some food shopping there for the room because there is one restaurant at the resort next door but nothing onsite.

Re: Timeshare Honeymoon
We are! My fiance's parents have a Marriott time share though, so you can use it anywhere you want! So we are using it for Hawaii!
I'm not sure about the house keeping situation, because we used their time share when we went to Las Vegas and we definitely had house keeping and didn't pay any thing extra for it. Either way, house keeping isn't a huge issue for me anyway.

OMG really! lol. I don't understand why we don't get it. I am going to call. I just feel like I'd rather use the $30-$60 a day on something else (like a prezzie for myself lol). hahaha.

Re: Timeshare Honeymoon
We are using RCI as well! We just booked Cozumel Palace. When you exchange for an all inclusive, you stay there just like any other guests at an all inclusive. The time share does not necessarily mean you get an apartment like hotel, in fact a lot of the all inclusives don't even have that. The only thing we had to do was pay all inclusive fees so it's not a totally free vacation but it was worth it.
I've only done this once before at a hotel in Orlando and we were there just like any other hotel guests so I imagine it will be the same when we go to the all inclusive in Mexico. If you want room upgrades, you have to do that through the hotel, etc.

Re: Timeshare Honeymoon
We are staying in a timeshare for our Honeymoon in Aruba. We are hoping there is availability at the RIU if not, it will be a the Marriott Ocean Club. With the RIU, there is a separate building for timeshares it appears but it is all on the same property. I really don't know if all-inclusive is available for timeshares though.ETA: The timeshare we were looking into at the RIU is called The Royal Palm. Just found out its all reserved. WAHH

Hahaha I don't blame you! I'd be the same way.
I don't mind picking up after myself and asking for more towels. Not the end of the world... but I definitely don't mind having extra money to buy myself some 'prezzies' on my honeymoon!
ahaha

Timeshare Honeymoon
Update: FMIL's timeshare is through RCI, so FH and I were on their website last night looking for all-inclusive resorts. We picked out Secrets Royal Beach in Punta Cana. Keep your fingers crossed it's available!

Awesome!! That is what we did - their website stinks though! FH's parents ended up calling to book our resort, we ended up with Cozumel Palace since we looooove swimming in the ocean and snorkeling.
So exciting!!
