we are getting married at 4:00PM about 5 minutes away from our reception hall and our cocktail hour starts at 6:30PM...Do you think that it is a big deal that people are going to have to entertain themselves for about an hour or so before they can go to the reception hall or do you think we are bad bad people??

Re: Timing Dilemma
Is there someplace nearby where people can congregate & wait? a bar or coffee shop?
Maybe ask Giorgios if they will let your guests arrive a little earlier and offer some soft drinks or something.
It shouldn't be too bad, it's kind of common around here and the guests manage.
I had one wedding with the ceremony at 1.00 and the cocktail hour started at 7.00 - they were less then an hour away from each other

Re: Timing Dilemma
we were thinking of asking giorgios if they would let people come a little early but they are having a day wedding so i dont know if they will. there isn't much over there either for people to do. I went to a wedding where the only people i knew were the bride and her sister in another state and we had to wait in the car for 2 and a half hours because we had no idea where to go or what to do and we managed we are so nervous because we want to be happy and we want our guests to be happy too

Re: Timing Dilemma
They will be fine. You figure and hour for the ceremony, the receiving line (if you do one) if it's nice out guests will wait for you two to come out of the church for pictures. They will chat or mingle for a bit and then head over to Giorgios. Even if they won't serve yet, they will probably have someplace for them to wait - a lot of people are early for weddings.
2 1/2 hours waiting in the car

Re: Timing Dilemma
thank you i am starting to feel a little better about the situation yeah in the car for 2 and a half hours. i was so angry because we were supposed to follow them with some of their family members to the reception so we were stuck there and we had no idea that was going to happen. we thought we could go back to the hotel but her fam members were no where to be found so we had to wait for them. it was a crazy day thank you again

Re: Timing Dilemma
We have a similar situation. Our mass is at 5. We expect it to be over by 6, and our CTH starts at 8. They are also right down the road from each other. It was planned that way so we have time for pictures. I am guessing people will go to a bar.

Re: Timing Dilemma
I have a similar dilemma, and I was all worked up about it until I realized that I have had to 'waste' time in between the ceremony and the reception several times. People will figure it out. Maybe you can set something up, I might, but I have too many other things to do....Maybe have someone in your family host something. Such a pain in the rear. DOn't worry about it. It's your day

Re: Timing Dilemma
maybe in your program you can add a little map that shows the area, like a starbucks here or a dunkin donuts here.

Re: Timing Dilemma
I don't think it is a big deal! Maybe what Cocoa said would be something you might want to think of, but not necessary. Don't worry!!! People love to talk!!!!!!!
