to all those who have had weddings or are getting married -
i recently started discussing with a few friends and family members about how much they tipped at their weddings to vendors (they all got married within 2 years) to my shock - they were shocked that I was even thinking of giving tips to vendors!!!
has anyone else talked to any non liw people who have gotten married lately? is this really the norm? im curious...
their reasoning being you are paying people enough for their services and that in most cases the people who they contracted owned their businesses ...
thoughts?

It's so funny you say this...I JUST had a convo with my dad (not really in the wedding loop) and asked why we're tipping everyone...limos are a given and bridal attendant and Maitre D yes but no one else should be tipped in his opinion...I have to say...I kinda agree with him.
What do you plan to do tinaval?

thats exactly what im going to do... except who ever delivers the flowers prob give em 20 bucks or so....
i feel a lot better about it now... i thought i was the norm to give out at least 150 in tips to each person... but im on a budget!!!

I added the flower delivery...good point!
We are paying an arm and a leg for vendors...they are ALL making a KILLING already so I don't believe the tip is necessary. JMO

yes i understood you. Sorry i meant that some people have their own ideas about someone that might not need to get tipped. Not that theres specific things alot of ppl feel the same way about not tipping.
Its up to you, i did tip DJ, photographer and limo. Just do whatever youre comfortable with

Re: Tipping???
So, it is ok to not tip the dj, photo and video guy? aren't you afraid they might mess with your pics? the limo usually includes the 20% grat, which we paid in the contract. I feel like everyone expects tips, even to go so far as to say people in the grocery stores. It is so much.

Re: Tipping???
Tina, my mom said trhe SAME thing to me the other day - that the only people that really should be tipped are the maitre d, bridal attendant, and hair/makeup. I was planning on tipping band and photog... but my band works for themselves, so I know they take home everything they are paid, and photog ... he works for a big co., so I would like to tip a bit ... who knows. but i think the difference is a *PERSONAL* service (hair, makeup, even bridal attendant and maitre d who are attending to your every need) vs. a job you hire someone to do that's not so much personal ... i mean i guess they all are, but it seems a little different to me.

good point. After the wedding its not like youre done with them and wont see them again. You still need to get your pics and video from them lol
