So, it is ok to not tip the dj, photo and video guy? aren't you afraid they might mess with your pics? the limo usually includes the 20% grat, which we paid in the contract. I feel like everyone expects tips, even to go so far as to say people in the grocery stores. It is so much.

good point. After the wedding its not like youre done with them and wont see them again. You still need to get your pics and video from them lol

I am not worried about them messing with the pics, no. That is really unprofessional, immature and against all ethics. You PAID them to be there. That is their service to you. I am sure some shady photogs, videogs would do this, but any reputable place in business for a while will not mess with what they owe you, what you paid them for.

Re: Tipping???

I am tipping but to be perfectly honest, here is what Im tipping. Alot of our vendors are the owners and I feel that what they are being paid is more than enough. At first I felt pressured (not trying to insult anyone on this site - b/c it ishelped more than imaginable) b/c of #s I have seen on this site to tip out more than planned. Everyones pocket is different so do what you are comfortable with

DJ - $200
Photo (2) $50 each
Video $50
Maitred $250
limos - 20% of balance
hair and make up - 20%

thats everything - the only person listed thats not an owner is the maitre'd

Re: Tipping???

I am planning on tipping hair/makeup, maitre d, bus/trolley guys, small amt for photog and video.

the band I know work for themselves and we are paying the whole thing in cash so that's a 30% tip right there. They don't have to report it. If they are amazing I will prob give them something.

are people tipping the florist....???

Here is my plan.
TIPPING:
Hair/Makeup $15 each
Organist (she is doing rehearsal too) $25
Church (they won't charge me anything b/c I'm a member) $250
Shuttle driver $25
Other vendors whose gratuities were built in to final cost.

NOT TIPPING:
Video
DJ
PHOTOGS
Each one of them in my case is the owner and not just an employee of the company. My DJ even required a booking fee which wasn't credited to my final balance - so I figured that was a built in tip right there.

it's ridiculous, in tips alone we spent $1500

Re: Tipping???

You should always tip your Maitre'd - our hall suggested $2-$3 pp, Your limo driver is a definite. I worked with a girl last year who did photography on the weekends with a well known vendor and she said do NOT tip photographer.

Tina, my mom said trhe SAME thing to me the other day - that the only people that really should be tipped are the maitre d, bridal attendant, and hair/makeup. I was planning on tipping band and photog... but my band works for themselves, so I know they take home everything they are paid, and photog ... he works for a big co., so I would like to tip a bit ... who knows. but i think the difference is a *PERSONAL* service (hair, makeup, even bridal attendant and maitre d who are attending to your every need) vs. a job you hire someone to do that's not so much personal ... i mean i guess they all are, but it seems a little different to me.

i agree.. and at the end of the day when i am working a second job to pay for this wedding... i cant justify like 2k going to tipping people out......

its funny cause fh said he never even thought once to tip out those people........

ps i went to lina!! shes so cute :)

Re: Tipping???

we tipped

limo
photographer
videographer
makeup (just because she came to the hall for touchups)
makeup assistant
maridd
bridal assistant
jazz trio
DJ/MC/motivator

I basically tipped everyone except valet parkers(guests gave them tips) and bartenders(they had a tip box.. if they didnt have one out I probably would have given them a nice tip) oh yeah I couldnt tip the flower delivery people because I didnt see them
I am well known to be a good tipper. LOL

I am not tipping my florist - she is the owner and as far as I know is the only employee -- so she's the delivery person as well ... but I am not tipping her.

Re: Tipping???

i think we're tipping basically everyone even though i read that u dont have to tip owners or hair/makeup when they come to you.

cake delivery (rehearsal)
limo (its included but i feel like they expect it anyway...this will depend on their service though)
photo (owner + 2 asst)
video (owner + coowner/ast)
flowers (just tipping for delivery, not tipping the owner)
ceremony music (non church person)
ch music (non owner)
dj + mc (owner, non owner)
hair and make up (theyre coming to me so it says not to tip them but i am anyway)
maitred
bridal attendants

not tipping

church/priest
organist
soloist
linen company
valet/bathroom/bar/servers etc (its outlined in our bill)...so technically we're tipping them just not extra
