Re: tipping the Maitre D?
Typically its 2-3 dollars a head, or so thats what our hall told us. We are gonna do about $600 or a little more, just to make sure he takes real good care of us

Re: tipping the Maitre D?
Mine is $3-$5 per person, which is pricey compared to other halls. We are having 300-350 ppl at our wedding and 3 maitre D's so we are giving $1000 for them to split. The Banquet manager said that's typical of what ppl. give considering the size of our wedding and the amount of maitre d's we're having.

Re: tipping the Maitre D?
Not to steal the thread - but I am wondering who gets tipped and how much?
The Fox Hollow (like most that we seen) charges 18% gratuity for the waitresses I guess.
But besides the Maitre D (who we were expecting $200-$300) what does everybody feel about tipping everybody else (bridal Attendant, DJ, Florist etc etc etc).
Who should be tipped, how much etc.

that is fine you may steal the thread! it was a great question. My hall is including the rest of the attendend, like the bartenders and servers in the package.

Re: tipping the Maitre D?
we're having approx. 225 guests so we're thinking of giving him from $600-$700 that night.

Norm is $3-5 per person. We had an exceptional Maitre D so we did $5 per person. Ours was $550.

Our hall suggests $3-$5 per person. We are planning to do $3 per person (about $600), especially since we are having a DOC.

All catering hall staff like waitstaff, valet, etc.
EXCEPT...Maitre D and Bridal Attendent. You're expected to tip them in addition to the 18%.
Tipping is a BIG expense. Some GREAT advice we rec'd from these boards was to... tip in cash, do NOT seal the envelopes. The amount you budget for may not necessarily be the amount they end up getting at the end of the night. Our DJs messed up...we took money out of their envelopes and popped it into our photographers who did an excellent job and we felt deserved the extra money.

Re: tipping the Maitre D?
You have to be careful about the 18% gratuity though, when I was at one of the catering halls they told me it's actually a service charge, and doesn't go towards tips. I'm not sure though if every hall does that too.

Re: tipping the Maitre D?
I know the maitre'd gets $2-3 pp but do you give this before or after the wedding? I thought after but I heard that you can give them something before to make sure they have incentive to do a good job.
