Tipping the Photographer

I went to an appointment today where the sales woman was selling me a photo package. One thing that threw me off was when she told me I have to tip the photographer 15%. It shocked me. I think that’s a lot given that would be paying for a package and a plate. I checked out theknot.com’s guide which was what I thought (optional, $50 - $200 per vendor). The company I booked with is a husband and wife team so I plan to give something to the videographer, but not 15%. What is the norm?

I'm not sure what the norm is, but that seems like a lot- that would be close to 1k for me. I think it's pretty nervy to demand a tip period, but especially such a large one. I never thought I'd say this, but the knot might be fairly accurate with this one.

From what I've seen other brides comment, I would say $100-250 is fairly accurate. It's such a turn-off when vendors demand a tip up front. At that point it's not a tip anymore. It's an additional fee.

I would say $100 and up plus a meal.
Before booking I asked every vendor about tips and noone demanded any tip. Most said they were uncomfortable discussing a tip but they still gave a reasonable figure. I wanted to know all info beforehand and no surprises before my wedding.

That seems unusually high. Like larlynn, that means I would be tipping close to $1,000 as well and I am definitely not tipping that much. I agree with everyone else - maybe around $100 or so for each photographer. I wouldn't go any higher especially since I will have to pay for their meals as well.

A tip is optional. We want to give tips but if we were to tip everyone we would be at an extra 1000.00. I think a small tip is ok but hundreds of dollars??? Ive already paid for the services.

Tipping the Photographer

I had a photographer, assistant, and 2 videographers. Tipped the photographer $200 and everyone else $100 each. We also fed everyone. It depends on what your package is. If it's 2 photographers for 3k and you're tipping them 150 each, that's not totally insane. However, we LOVED our photographers and added extra money to their envelopes because they were so wonderful to work with. It is rude/bad business to request a tip upfront.

Oh - I misread. 15% is quite a bit a more. My DOC said $100-150 is standard for photographers.

My photographer is the owner of her company (she works w/her husband or sister as the asst.) my friend that referred me said she didnt tip her and her friend who used her didnt tip either. I was happy to learn that maybe it's one person i didnt HAVE to tip that night, but is that wrong?
