Titanium wedding band??

Hi Girls!

Anyone getting a titanium wedding band for your FI or even yourself? We went shopping today and my FI loves the look and feel of the comfort fit 8mm band. What do you think? I'm not familiar with that metal, all I know is that the material is used on airplanes!

If you did get titanium, where did you purchase the rings? What were the price ranges?

Pros/ cons?

Thanks!

Re: Titanium wedding band??

Titatinum is much cheaper than platinum and slightly darker. It has a very cool industrial look to it which is making it very popular.

The only drawbacks are:

a)the metal is so strong it can't be resized. So if your FH gains/loses a significant amount of weight in his lifetime, you will need a new ring. Some retailers promise to exchange your ring for a new size at any time.

b)the metal is so strong it can't be cut off in case of emergency. So its not an ideal metal if your FH works with his hands (mechanic, etc..)

c) I don't think it can be engraved (but not sure about this).

Re: Titanium wedding band??

Where to go? Tudor Jewlers in Northport...

GREAT FAMILY, Ray is the son, and the man to speak to about rings.

He ordered a bunch of really cool titanium wedding bands for us to check out. Some are straight titanium, some are titanium and platnium, some titanium and gold.

A plain titanium band was about $200.

He is making me a real small and simple wedding band. He also made my engagement ring (without me knowing of course!!).

They are located right on Main Street Northport, near the movie theater.

Re: Titanium wedding band??

I got my hubby a titanium wedding band, I had it engraved and it can be removed in case of emergency. It is very sturdy and very beautiful. My wedding band is platinum and it has more scratches already and his does not. The ring has a gun metal gray color to it I love it and so does he. It is very light in weight.

I purchased his at www.eweddingbands.com wonderful customer service. We returned 3 rings b/c hubby changed his mind about styling so many times Not once did they mind!!! Check them out they have an extensive sectionon Titanium.

Here is the ring I got him

All the best and happy planning

Re: Titanium wedding band??

Titanium's unique properties make it an excellent choice for a wedding band, although it's very different than gold or platinum. It’s a very lightweight metal, almost like aluminum, weighing only 1/3 as much as gold! Many people prefer this light feel because they hardly notice they are wearing a ring at all! Its grayish color is close to white, but a few shades darker than platinum and white gold, more like the color of stainless steel, or gun-metal gray.

Titanium is often marketed as being scratch-resistant, but our experience has shown that over time it does gather small scratches with normal wear, similar to gold rings. The good news is that any jeweler in your area should be able to make it look brand new with a little polishing. Titanium bands look great and have a nice shine when they have been polished! Due to the incredible strength and durability of titanium, it is difficult to cut and shape compared to gold, silver and platinum. Because of this unique nature, re-sizing these bands is nearly impossible; therefore, great care must be taken when sizing your finger. It is possible to slightly increase a ring's size by removing a small amount of material from the inside surface, but it isn't possible to make it smaller.

Titanium is not a rare or precious metal, it is readily available to those who want to use it in any industry. Most of the cost in making a titanium ring is in the skilled labor to craft the ring from such a hard metal. All of our titanium rings are made from high grade aircraft titanium to provide our customers the highest quality. The rings are constructed from solid bars of titanium, which results in a perfectly seamless band. Titanium will not irritate or discolor your skin and will not harm the body in any way. Titanium is used in the medical and dental fields in surgical implants, bone screws, hip replacements, heart valves and more. Titanium rings are superior in durability to precious metals such as gold, silver and platinum (as you might guess from its uses in the aerospace and medical fields). A Titanium ring may long outlive the wearer.

Can a Titanium Band be cut off?

Yes! Please be aware that in any situation where it might become necessary to cut off a wedding band-for instance excessive weight gain, hand injury, etc., cutting through titanium will be more difficult than cutting through gold or platinum. However, it can still be done. In our own jewelry shop, we used a separating disc and flexible shaft tool-items commonly found in nearly all jewelry shops that work with gold, silver, and platinum--to cut through one of our 5mm domed and comfort fit titanium bands. Cutting it all the way through took only 20 seconds. Next, we contacted our local hospital emergency room and asked if they were equipped to cut off a titanium wedding band in an emergency. Most hospital emergency rooms are prepared to handle almost anything, and ours assured us that it would be no problem for them. During our 28 years of jewelry repair experience, we've only seen a dozen or so rings that have been cut off in hospital emergency rooms, and in most of those cases the rings had been bent out-of-round and were putting painful pressure on the finger. If you need your Titanium band cutoff, contact a local jeweler that has a separating disc.

During our 28 years of jewelry repair experience, we've only seen a dozen or so rings that have been cut off in hospital emergency rooms, and in most of those cases the rings had been bent out-of-round and were putting painful pressure on the finger. Titanium wedding bands are less likely to crush or bend out-of-round, so if you shut your hand in a car door or drop a heavy object on it, it might be safer to be wearing a titanium band than a precious metal band! Nonetheless, if you ever need your Titanium band cut off, just contact a local jeweler that uses separating discs. Please don't hesitate to check with your local medical facility if you still have concerns.

Re: Titanium wedding band??

I guess our jeweler misinformed us about the cutting off in emergency. Ive heard this from pilots so I assumed it was true but evidently not.

Shamma - I really love the look of titanimum - and your FHs ring is really great looking.

Re: Titanium wedding band??

My Fi picked Titanium also, he was not familiar with it at all(I knew what it was from these boards ect)
He will not wear his ring everyday due to his line of work & I knew he would not want Platinum for himself because of the cost. We were looking @ white gold for him, then he tried on the titanuim & loved the feel & lightness of it. It looks like a pewter color to me, I like it too. I think it was around $200 @ Bailey, Banks & Biddle Jewelers.
I think it's a great choice.
