TMI- HIV test?

TMI- HIV test?

I am just curious....for those of you who are sexually active (which is most of us..and who are not using condoms) did you ever make FH take the HIV test?? Im just curious...I have always used condoms..but when we get married I will be on BC..and would like to have unprotected sex..I know FH wont get mad if I ask him to take one...but do you think at this point it would be pointless?? I trust him...but yknow...im weird lol

I know for myself, I have gotten tested when I went to the GYN a couple of years ago. FH and I were dating for about 5 months at the time. But FH had never gotten one, and WILL NOT be Upset if I ask him t get one. It'll just Protect Our Health.

What about going & taking them together? I've taken them myself in the past & made Ex's take them..just to be sure.

When we first started dating I made him get an hiv test and also std testing then right before we had sex I made him get tested. He's been tested several times in our relationship. I get tested every year even though he's the only person I've slept with (I used to work in a hospital around blood specimens).

Funny thing is when I went for my yearly GYN visit...Dr. asked me if I wanted HIV and STD tests done, now that I'm getting married. I was a bit embarrassed, especially since that hasn't been an issue for FH and I. But I guess w/ the way things are nowadays, you can't trust anyone and you should really be prepared for anything. Kinda like having prenuptials...you know what you have b4 entering a relationship...It sounds bad but you have to be careful.

Ditto - I have gotten tested at my annual GYN appointment since the first time I went. I had FH get tested before anything happened between us. We still do it every year - I always say it's better safe than sorry. I trust FH 100%, but I also personally know of someone who trusted her husband 100% and got HIV from him - he had an affair 5-10 years into their marriage that she wasn't aware about.

Well said, if he loves you he will take it, but I like the idea of the suggestion to take it together

You girls are right. FH has been married before so obviously he has had unprotected sex, he left his ex-wife because he suspected she was cheating...so that worries me. Then after her he was with a few other women (but used protection)...but yes, its def. safe than sorry..

I actually have never asked DH to get an STD test or HIV test. I know personally, I get an STD test every year no matter what and an HIV test whenever the military makes me take it.

If you would feel better having him take one, I'd take one together as stated before

Yes, we've both been tested for everything. It's so important to be tested. One of my friend's husband cheated on her ONE time and he ended up giving my friend HPV. She got cancer from it and had to have a histerectomy. She had to have a hernia surgey last year because of it as well. She found out she had the HPV when she found out about the cancer. They're celebrating their 25 year anniversary next week, but it's just evidence that you NEVER really do know. You're better off safe than sorry. My friend could have died because of a one night affair. Get tested and make FH get tested.

My FH's brother is getting married in May so the two of them went together and I took a test when I went for my annual. FH and I discussed it and decided that it is the best thing to do. My mom was telling me that at one point in NY to get married both had to take tests. I wonder when and why that changed.

No offense, but don't you think your question is a little too personal and maybe you should be discussing this with your DR and your FH than with a bunch of stangers??

I am a little offended that you would even post something like that.. it's one thing to post about BCP, but another to post about a deadly disease or STD's with people you don't even know..

Well, it doesnt seem to have offended anyone so far, except you. However, if you feel its too personal which is why I stated 'TMI' on the post subject..then you can opt to not respond. Remember, you are never forced to respond to a post.

ETA: Also, I started this post to get some advice on what I should do in reguards to the issue...I am not looking to get into personal issues about everyones sexually lives with their FH..I do understand thats its a touch subject...but I am not looking for details...I was just curious to know if a lot of you have token the test and it I should do it at this point in our relationship..thats all..

Well said. I was just about to respond with the same thought.

If anything I'd much rather have someone bring up a question that maybe she isn't comfortable talking with to her close friends or family and help her out with it than not have her ask.

I wouldnt say Im offended, I guess that the last 2 posts were about BC, Planned Parent Hood & HIV, as one girl suggested , maybe seeing a gyno , would be helpful in your questions. Not to say you cant ask here , just asking a regular gyno about these questions is more smarter no ?

Thank you. Honestly, I do feel more comfortable bring up a subject like this with you girls rather then with my mom or sister.(although it has come up)...I just wanted some opinions.
