TMI- HIV test?

Original post by bettybcafe

I am just curious....for those of you who are sexually active (which is most of us..and who are not using condoms) did you ever make FH take the HIV test?? Im just curious...I have always used condoms..but when we get married I will be on BC..and would like to have unprotected sex..I know FH wont get mad if I ask him to take one...but do you think at this point it would be pointless?? I trust him...but yknow...im weird lol

No offense, but don't you think your question is a little too personal and maybe you should be discussing this with your DR and your FH than with a bunch of stangers??

I am a little offended that you would even post something like that.. it's one thing to post about BCP, but another to post about a deadly disease or STD's with people you don't even know..

Well, it doesnt seem to have offended anyone so far, except you. However, if you feel its too personal which is why I stated 'TMI' on the post subject..then you can opt to not respond. Remember, you are never forced to respond to a post.

Well said. I was just about to respond with the same thought.

If anything I'd much rather have someone bring up a question that maybe she isn't comfortable talking with to her close friends or family and help her out with it than not have her ask.

We're all here to support each other! (No matter what the topic!)

Thank you. Honestly, I do feel more comfortable bring up a subject like this with you girls rather then with my mom or sister.(although it has come up)...I just wanted some opinions.

I can totally understand! Anytime you need something I'm always here!

ETA: Also, I started this post to get some advice on what I should do in reguards to the issue...I am not looking to get into personal issues about everyones sexually lives with their FH..I do understand thats its a touch subject...but I am not looking for details...I was just curious to know if a lot of you have token the test and it I should do it at this point in our relationship..thats all..

I wouldnt say Im offended, I guess that the last 2 posts were about BC, Planned Parent Hood & HIV, as one girl suggested , maybe seeing a gyno , would be helpful in your questions. Not to say you cant ask here , just asking a regular gyno about these questions is more smarter no ?

I understand. Well, I was the one that posted the post about BC and planned parenthood..I guess thats why the thought of the HIV test came to mind...FH and I have always had protected sex...but now that I will be on BC...I was thinking of unprocted sex (I mean, we will be married soon)...just wanted some of your opinions... point taken tho.

FH and I got tested together before we were ever intimate. You should definitely do it together. You can never be too careful.

I don't really get why this question is offensive. It has been posted before (or something similar discussing HIV testing) that post didn't cause an uproar. I think everyone who is sexually active should be tested for HIV and STDs regardless of always using condoms because 1. there are STDs that can be transmitted regardless of condom use (herpes and HPV) and HPV can cause cervical cancer and 2. the only way you will know your status is to get tested. People should not be afraid to ask these questions of someone who they are initimate with much less a person they intend to marry. I personally would not have sex with someone who wasn't tested recently, I told FH that when I was 16 years old and he respected that and completely agreed. To me ignorance is the worse dissease of all because it can be avoided.
