Re: To all my Italian girls...
yummmmm. For St. Paddy's day we always do Cormed Beef & Cabbage and then for dessert we have the St. Joseph Pastry! Everyone always has the Canoli filling but I buy the custard one for myself!

Re: To all my Italian girls...
In the middle ages, Sicilians prayed to St. Joseph to end a famine caused by a drought. When their prayers were answered and it rained, the people showed their thanks to St. Joseph by sharing their precious food with the poor.

Re: To all my Italian girls...
Is this why Italians wear Orange on St. Paddy's Day?
My mom once told me she used to always wear orange, not green, and I never asked her why?

Re: To all my Italian girls...
You just reminded me, I am going to my FH’s grandma’s house tonight for San Giuseppe dinner and (best part) dessert! Woo hoo… one of the many perks of marrying an Italian boy

My dad who was from Dublin used to get so offended when people wore orange on St. Pat's. Orange is the color of Protestantism in Ireland, and, the color of the Orange Order, a militant Scots-British organization that celebrates Britain's defeating Catholic Irish armies and ravaging Ireland to annex it to England.

But she wore it because she was Italian, figures I can't get in touch with her to ask her why.

Hm...I'd be interested to know. It doesn't bother me in the least bit. My father was a bit of a nut anyway.

Re: To all my Italian girls...
My mom is 1/2 italian, 1/2 sicilain, and I am so upset that I never even heard of this??
Is this a religious celebration, or an italian one, since we are not religious?

SAINT Joseph...Hmm...I wonder...Is that cultural or religious? Maybe both. But I wouldn't rule out the religious aspect of a holiday with the word SAINT in its title.
