Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
I was cheap on certain things cuz I am old and have to think about my retirement / family more than the rest of you. If I was in my 20's, my wedding would have been more expensive. Plus, my Mother is a cheapo and H's parents are in some debt (BUT they did help as much as they could!). We paid for wedding ourselves.

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
If it's for me- I live frugally.
If it's a gift- I spend every penny I've got.
If it's my fiance shopping- he'll buy the whole store. He's the extravagant one.
(He also makes most of our money so I'm fine with it.)

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
I am trying to be as frugal as I can be and still have a great party. Sister doing the photography, friend doing the video, friend singing for the ceremony, no limos, having an early afternoon ceremony and early reception on Sat. I did spend on a DJ and the food is fab so the guests will have a good time....cake provided by the hall, so why bother spending more money etc... The economy is troubling me and I don't want to feel bad that I spent soooo much on one day.....I just am a worrier by nature... I don't think I am always frugal, but for one day I don't want debt or to drain my savings.

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
I try to make it stretch as much as possible. I've been a student for 7 years. And so was FH for 7 years, he only started working a real job a year and a half ago so we haven't had much of a choice. BUT we're both very generous, him even more so than I.
Why does it have a negative connotation?

EH, could just be how I read it cause it bothers me that I always have to be on a strict budget.

I like to keep everything in perspective...there are things I will spend money on, things that are important, but I don't concern myself with always having the newest, bestest, most expensive of stuff, and I think even if I was super rich I still wouldn't spend a lot of money on things I know I could get cheaper.
A friend of mine is getting married and ALWAYS has to talk about how much this is costing, how much that is costing, like to show off, and it is both draining AND pretensious of her.

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
I think I am a good shopper, I always look for deals and use coupons when I can. For the wedding I DIYed a lot but not to save money because I could not find what I wanted.
edit : I wanted to add, that if I see a dress or shoes that I must have and it is full price I will buy it no questions asked. . . . this is when my fh laughs at me

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
I'm a cheap a$$ to myself. I feel guilty for spending money on myself. But on other people I'm very generous.
But when FI and I buy stuff for our house etc we buy the best but at the best deal.
I'm a self proclaimed deal queen and no one has taken over my reign yet! HEhe.
I was kidding with my brother the other day about strollers. They had a Peg Perego that they GAVE away to a friend! And I joked around with him that why didn't he save it for me. And he said oh there are really nice ones out now even nicer than that one that I'll buy for you when you're pregnant. To which I respond just give me the money. And he said but if I give you the money you won't buy that exact stroller. Haha. SO true.
We're DIYing a ton of wedding stuff to save money and to personalize it.

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
This is a great question Barb!
I am definately a frugal bride! I spent 14 years trying to streach a $1 into $5 because my ex would rather spend all his money on drinking and partying. So I am so used to shopping at ABC Stores and buying store brand products its a hard thing thing to get over. I am so afraid on not having money again. Jerry is constantly telling me that we are not hurting for money and to get coupons out of my vocabulary (a medifore for buying cheap) But to make up for all the years i couldnt give a good Christmas to my family I am going overboard now. My Neice and nephew both get at aleast 10 gifts each at Christmas and 3 or 4 for their birthdays. But i still have a problem spending money on myself. I have made progress though- this weekend I went and got new glasses for the day of and spent $600! It killed me to do this but Jerry was with me and talked me into it.
I think I will always be a bargain hunter but I do realize that I can buy DelMonte instead of Shop and Stop brand.

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
I wasn't cheap with everything in regard to the wedding, but we did make most decisions with the price tag in mind. First thing - quality of the vendors. Second thing - once we liked a few in a particular category, we looked at the price + what we were getting for that price.
I've never gone out to spend an extraordinary amount of money for only one day's use (and hope to never have to do that again) until now.
In my day-to-day life, I'm frugal with some things and don't care about the price tag on others. Just like with the wedding planning.
