I normally am not cheap on things but for the wedding, I was cheap on pretty much everything.
Come on now my DIY'd invites cost me $9.99!!! Couldn't get any cheaper than that!!
HOWWWWWWWWW?

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
When I used to work in the city, it was near Jack's World and they had all types of Wilton Print Invitations. And other wedding item stuff. Normally these invites cost $25.00 per package or more for depending on the number of invites you get.
Jack's was selling these which contained 50 invites for $9.99. Since I was only planning to have no more than 100 guests, it worked out perfectly.
Yeah I could have paid much more and had gorgeous invites made, but instead of paying $300 or more on invites, I decided I could do something better with my money. And get other things that I thought were more important, like for instance a DOC.
I have to say the day of my wedding without my DOC's, I probably would have been soooo stressed and crazed. It was the best decision ever. Also, have to admit my invites were very nice. All of my guests complimented me on them and were amazed I DIY'd them.

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
I unfortunately am not cheap. But I make more money than FH so I can do that
But for the wedding, I became cheap in the sense, if I dont need it, I wont buy it!

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
Basically, I like to get what I want at the best price that I can. I feel like that is how we went about wedding planning. I found out what I wanted, and then I googled/bargained/haggled/coupon coded until I could get it where I want.

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
I am trying to be cheap on certain things but in even attempting to be cheap, it's costing us a fortune! I didn't really sacrafice anything because of costs but I did reconsider packages and all that. In general, I try to be a smart shopper and I recently started using coupons...i know, i know. but you would be suprised at how much I save!
But, I think I am very generous when it comes to others, more so than I am with buying myself new or expensive things.

If it's for me- I live frugally.
If it's a gift- I spend every penny I've got.
If it's my fiance shopping- he'll buy the whole store. He's the extravagant one.
(He also makes most of our money so I'm fine with it.)
That's totally us too!

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
I have been the cheapest bride ever!! But that was sort of out of necessity! We have three kids and a house to pay for on top of paying for everything for the wedding ourselves. I just couldn't justify spending crazy amounts of money on a wedding. I think I 'cheaped out' on the things I could and then researched everything I felt was really important. I actually came in under budget so now I am splurging on some of the 'nice' things that are not necessary but I really wanted.
In real life I can be the cheapest person in the world...But that's how I just got a huge bag of clothes for my kids for $30 and a Keurig for $20. Kills me to spend too much. I do splurge on a few things fairly regularly...going out to eat and mani/pedis...but I fell like I deserve to do that!

I prefer to call it living 'on the cheap' rather ... 'being cheap.'

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
I weigh the pros and cons in life when it comes to spending money. I think do I need it...how much do I really want it....and will I regret it if I don't get it? I would not say that I am cheap all the time because I do my fair share of splurging but I have been determined from the start to have a nice wedding and not be in complete debt after its all over. So I guess it depends on what I am thinking of spending my money on....sometimes I am cheap other times I say 'F' it and I spend like crazy

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
we're just poor..lol. we're paying for everything ourselves--in cash--so our wedding is what we can afford. i'm marrying an alini, not a trump..lol. i would love to have spent thousands on flowers, had a $10,000.00 dress, and had a photobooth and cigar roller, but we just can't afford it. for me, it's all about being practical.

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
im not cheap usually, but im trying to cut costs majorly for the wedding because it's only one day... we want to save for a house....fh lost his job while planning (just started working again- this time in real estate), so we had to cut corners.
in life, im smart with money. i dont go crazy and buy myself clothes and shoes and stuff..but i spend money on others in my life and i like to go out to dinner and enjoy myself and travel!!!!!

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
Im cheap..I admit it. For most things including wedding- but I splurge on things I deem important ..like zombie shoes and lamb bags but I hardly spend money on clothes anymore and I try to find the best deal on EVERYTHING as long as its the smartest deal. FH says women shop - men buy and if he wants it he pretty much buys it- I spend weeks stressing on whether or not I need it

I have a spending issue and dont conserve when it comes to anything...other than utilities. I hate paying electric etc...so I make everyone in my house freeze and sweat. lol

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
FH yells at me all the time that I need to learn to become frugal I say that I just need to learn how to not tell him everything Lol, no but seriously I just have a hard time turning something down. If I see something that I like I have to have it I can't just walk away from it. I wish I could find good deals on things but I don't have the patience half the time. I envy you frugal girls! I need to get better control.

Totally us.
Before we adopted our dog we kept the house at oh...high 50's/low60s in the winter. I would walk around with layers upon layers of clothing. In the summer...bust out the fan! We have central air but never turn it on until it's past mid 80's in the house. hehe.
Everyone has learned to dress accordingly when they come over.

Ditto.. I rather spend my dough on the rest of our lives than one day of our lives...

Re: TO ALL THE FRUGAL BRIDES
i tend not to spend a lot on myself and spend things on items that i need for the house, food, etc. For example, i can't remember the last time i bought myself a new outfit. For my wedding i pretty much bought what i really liked and spent what i thought would be worth it (like DH's grooms cake which was totally worth his expression). but i did cut back on other areas.
