FH and i started registering this weekend. boy thats hard and confusing!
our current registry delimma is this: we are stuck on whether or not to register for china. We picked out a set and put it on the registry, but then we started thinking, do we really need china? I just thought we did because everyone else that registers registered for china. But FH and i have never lived together, and he still lives at home, i live in a small apt, so i have bare necessities. we need EVERYTHING. we feel like we need so much, and we can get so much more if we didnt put china on. And then if we did put china on, we would need to buy the rest of the set if we didnt receive everything, which would be costly.
What are your thoughts on china? Are you registering for it? Or are you getting china handed down from family? (essentially still going to have a set) How often do you think you would use china? How many place settings are you registering for?
TIA!

I didn't intend to at all.....my MIL talked me into it. I didn't get any pieces for my bridal shower but then I was in Macy's and noticed the Mikasa Cameo Platinum service for 8 on sale at Macy's for $300...plus an additional coupon discount.
I originally registered for a pattern that was over $100 a place setting. Then I came accross the Mikasa Parchment set in Macys- the full expanded set w/ 8 place settings and platters etc, it was around $250 on sale. My mom talked me into registering for it instead. It was more realistic since I was having a pretty small shower, and no engagement party. My sis got me the full set for my shower gift. If it breaks I won't have a heart attack lol, unlike the first set I had on there. Honestly, I could use it every day if I wanted but right now it's still in the box. DH doesn't understand why we have it, but I like to entertain. So hopefully one day we can have a house & set the whole table w/ the china on special occasions. I just figured it was something I'd never buy for myself, so why not.

Re: To china or not to china
IMO And from all my friends whom are married... They said registering for China was a waste of money. They have either never used it, or used it once.
FH & I discussed since we already live together, and have everyday plain white dishes that are barely 2 yrs old, to register for everyday china. Which we will not use everyday, but its nice to use when you have company over and not just for the holidays. So instead of my guests paying 150+ for a set, the ones we picked out were about $65 a set.

Re: To china or not to china
Registering for china was never a question for me. We are hosting Thanksgiving this year and I can't wait to use our china and start a tradition. My MIL uses hers on all of the holidays and it's always nice to see the table set. It can be very expensive, so go with something timeless if you chose to go ahead and keep it on your registry. I know a lot of people who decided against it, and that is okay too.
